Job Summary

The Lead Adventure Specialist directly oversees the Adventure Specialist team, providing general guidance, motivational leadership, training on product and sales skills and ensures sales departmental and company policy and procedures are effectively communicated and followed. This position also maintains strong relationships with Accounting, Marketing and IT departments for smooth interdepartmental workflows. This person is a seasoned, dynamic, proven travel industry sales professional who possesses independent decision-making, elevated communication, and organizational skills as well as advanced sales training and reservations management abilities. The Lead Adventure Specialist assumes responsibility for the active phone, live chat and internet selling processes for all vessels and destinations in the UnCruise Adventures portfolio. Responsibilities of this position include managing the TEAM success of the entire sales cycle – from the first point of contact by phone, e-mail, letter or other means all the way through follow-up communications with the travel agents and direct clients. The Lead Adventure Specialist reports directly to the Inside Sales Director.

This is a full-time position located in-person at the company’s headquarters in Seattle, WA. Standard office hours are 8am - 5pm PST, Monday – Friday. Occasional weekend hours, flexible schedule from time to time to provide coverage as needed. Occasional travel overnighting away from your home based may be required.

Essential Duties

  • Oversee the Adventure Specialist team and schedules
  • Work closely with Sales Directors to monitor sales goals and recommend and implement tactics to enhance short-term sales
  • Manage the company wide phone system and sales department communications including live chat programs, email templates and after-hours voicemails
  • Facilitate weekly sales meetings/check-ins, ensuring the team feels supported
  • Regulate promotions and discounts to ensure they are being applied in the appropriate way
  • Use all resources at hand to become expert and keep abreast on all aspects of the UnCruise product, vessels, destinations, itinerary details, and tours and land programs
  • Oversee the expedient, thorough and skillful departmental response to incoming sales leads from various sources and know how to respond to each source in the appropriate way
  • Address minor guest and travel agent escalations, troubleshooting and managing contingencies
  • Work with the UCA operations liaison to satisfactorily resolve complaints or claims due to vessel contingencies or individual issues filed by guests or trade partners
  • Work with Systems Manager to audit weekly travel agent commissions, refunds and resolve accounting issues with direct and agency clients
  • Reporting for payroll bi-weekly insurance incentives
  • Other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

  • 5+ Years sales with outstanding customer service mentality and practices
  • Proven ability to successfully lead, train and support team – additional consideration for those with cruise, reservations and travel industry experience
  • Must possess a keen eye for detail and the ability to multi-task, work independently with a strong sense of accountability and follow-through
  • Superior verbal and written communication and relational skills and impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail
  • General proficiency or ability to learn account auditing, working with commissions and making correct calculations with large dollar amounts.
  • Experience responding to, resolving, and rectifying guest/agent complaints using a positive and pro-active approach to problem-solving
  • Proficiency in various technical software, Microsoft TEAMS and Suite and the ability to pick up new technical functions quickly, experience in-house reservation system iTravel and CRM SalesForce a plus
  • Ability to train team to up-sell and maximize resources at hand; to close sales opportunities and to maximize revenues contributing to the bottom-line success of the team
  • The ability to effectively present sensitive information in one-on-one situations, and comfort with public speaking in group situations
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times maintaining levels of tact and courtesy
  • Self-motivated, team player that works well under pressure, has a good sense of humor, loves what they do, and wants to work hard for a talented team

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Must be able to work in a standard office environment with sitting, typing and writing for 8 to 10 hours per day
  • Position may require bending, climbing, reaching, repetitive motion, and light lifting
  • Position may require traveling by car, plane and other modes of transportation
  • Occasional work on board vessels potentially in remote locations. May require climbing a gangway or ladder and navigating a vessel under construction
