Laboratory Technician

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Laboratory Technician to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Engineering & Public Works (EPW) department. The Laboratory Technician earns a competitive salary of $20.58 - $22.27/hourly based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE AS THE LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

  • Maintains and updates the QA/QC Program to ensure the methods, techniques and equipment used to analyze samples produce accurate, reliable results.
  • Performs routine quality control for laboratory instruments and continuous monitoring equipment such as, turbidimeters and chlorine analyzers.
  • Performs routine jar tests and other essential water quality tests used to determine treatment parameters.
  • Calculates and compiles test data using spreadsheet applications. Verifies data used for compliance reporting.
  • Compiles equipment maintenance logs and updates reference materials; prepares various technical reports.
  • Preserves and prepares samples as required for laboratory analyses to include work sent to contract labs; schedules sample pickup times for contract labs.
  • Orders, receives, organizes and maintains the inventory of laboratory and sampling supplies and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training experience in the water industry or related field. Preferences include: college courses or certification(s) in environmental science, microbiology, or chemistry.
  • Three (3) years of working experience in surface water treatment plants or closely related field. Experience with membrane filters is preferred.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • The minimum license requirement of this position is a valid Class B Surface Water Operator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
  • Consideration will be given to a qualified candidate with a Class C license if candidate can obtain valid Class B license within 18 months of employment.

Salary: $20.58 - $22.27 per hour
