Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Performs insect/bacterial cell culture protocol maintenance and generates data reports for grants.
- Performs protein purification, animal management and handling.
- Manages laboratory regulatory compliance and clearances with Environmental Health and Safety.
- Performs equipment and instrument protocol maintenance.
- Manages service contracts and records maintenance for data support as needed for grants.
- Conducts technical scientific laboratory experiments for data so the Principal Investigator (PI) may generate new grant applications and/or progress reports on grants.
- Provides supervision to graduate students that rotate through the lab.
- Leads research activities and protocol development.
- Maintains equipment, including preventive maintenance such as scheduling repairs as needed, service agreement negotiations, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and maintaining an active list of vendors to respond to equipment loss.
- Supervises, mentors, and provides training for junior-level staff.
- Prepares summary data reports.
- Creates and maintains databases for storage and analysis.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable local and federal regulations.
- May design and conduct a wide range of complex experiments.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a science related field
- Master's degree in a sciences related field
- Degree in biochemistry or molecular biology
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 3 years of laboratory research experience
- Bench research experience during undergraduate and/or graduate studies
