Laboratory Manager Overview:

TalentWell is hiring a Laboratory Manager a rapidly growing Texas-based clinical laboratory company. This position will manage laboratory staff (Accessioners, Lab Assistants, Medical Technicians/Technologists) within a medical laboratory in Irving, TX. The laboratory does testing within hematology, chemistry, coagulation, UA, and some microbiology.

  • Full-time, permanent role
  • Pay: $80,000-$90,000/year (based on experience and tenure)
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday Day Shift (9:00am-5:00pm OR 10:00am-6:30pm); position may work on the bench during off hours and come in earlier for team support as needed

Laboratory Manager Responsibilities:

  • The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory. The Manager must select/employ laboratory personnel competent to perform testing, establish policies/procedures that ensure accuracy and proficiency in reporting test results.
  • Performs duties encompassing that of the laboratory manager
  • Responsible for the overall operation and administration of the laboratory.
  • Responsible for the employment of personnel who are competent and qualified to perform assigned duties.
  • Responsible for assuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure that testing systems performed in the laboratory provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of the test performance, which include pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of testing.
  • Ensure that the physical and environment conditions of the laboratory are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical and biological hazards.
  • Ensure that test methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care.
  • Ensure that verification procedures used are adequate to determine accuracy, precision and other pertinent performance characteristics of the method.
  • Ensure that laboratory personnel are performing the test methods as required for accurate and reliable results.
  • Ensure that the laboratory is enrolled in an HHS approved proficiency testing program for the testing performed in the laboratory.
  • Provide review of all proficiency results and ensure that an effectual corrective action plan is followed when any proficiency testing results are found to be unacceptable or unsatisfactory
  • Ensure that quality control and quality assurance plans are established and maintained to assure the quality of laboratory services provided and to identify failures in quality as they occur.
  • Ensure the establishment and maintenance of acceptable levels of analytical performance for each test system.
  • Ensure that all necessary remedial actions are taken and documented whenever significant deviations from the laboratory's established performance specifications are
  • identified, and that patient test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly.
  • Employ a sufficient number of laboratory personnel with the appropriate education and either experience or training to provide appropriate consultation, properly supervise and accurately perform tests and report test results in accordance with the personnel responsibilities described.
  • Ensure that before testing patient specimens, all personnel have the appropriate education and experience, receive the appropriate training for the type and complexity of the service offered, and have demonstrated that they can perform all testing operations reliably to provide and report accurate results.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are established for monitoring individuals who conduct pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing to assure that they are competent and maintain their competency to process specimens, perform test procedures ,and report test results promptly and proficiently and, whenever necessary, identify needs for remedial training or continuing education to improve skills.
  • Ensure that an approved procedure manual is available to all personnel responsible for any aspect of the testing process.
  • Specify, in writing, the responsibilities and duties of each manager, supervisor, consultant ,and every person engaged in the performance of the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.


Laboratory Manager Availability:

The Laboratory Manager is not required to be on-site at all times that testing is performed. However, he/she must be available to the laboratory on an as needed basis to provide consultation via telephone or electronic means.


Laboratory Manager Requirements:

  • 5 years experience working within a clinical laboratory as a generalist
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related scientific field (Other educational degrees will be considered based on lab experience)
  • Certified by a national accreditation board related to the laboratory (ASCP/AMT)
  • Meet Federal and State guidelines to be a Laboratory Manager
  • 2 years’ experience directing or supervising a moderate complexity laboratory
  • Experience with CAP & CLIA compliance is required. Additional experience with NY and California compliance preferred.
  • Fluent using MS Word, & Excel
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills when interacting with internal and external customers. Able to speak English language clearly.
  • Adheres to the Laboratory’s core values, safety and compliance policies and procedures. Work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.
