Prepare and analyze samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. Work independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. Understand and apply basic analytical chemistry principles. Always follow safe laboratory practices and maintain a safe working environment.
Job Description
The Analyst I, Laboratory conducts routine sample analysis, preparation, extraction, and digestion with and without the use of instrumentation following official methods and laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Builds their knowledge and skills in evaluation of the chemical and physical properties of various organic and inorganic substances for consumer product testing purposes.
Under direct supervision conducts routine analytical studies of samples, preparation, extraction, and digestion with and without the use of instrumentation following official methods and laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols
Assists in preparation, submission and filing reports on client sample tests, correlation tests, calibration, validation and other projects
May assist / gets exposure to development of the analytical methods, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other operating, safety and quality documents for method development, transfer, and validation studies
Assists with investigation, and preparation of responses to client inquiries
Inputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations
Maintains Laboratory Notebook
Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications
Associate Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline (Required)
0-2 years of experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories OR 3 years of relevant experience (i.e. Sample Prep) (Required)
Bachelor’s Degree in a Chemistry or similar scientific discipline (Preferred)
1-2 years of years’ relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (Preferred)

Assists with investigation and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CARs.
Performs initial data review, verifying quality control standards met criteria and identifying samples that need to be re-analyzed and provides to more senior positions to further review.
Following SOPs and completing required training parameters
Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
HEALTH, SAFETY, & ENVIRONMENT
Fit for Duty Medical Surveillance Requirement – employee must complete a general physical and questionnaire related to physical efforts of job.
Demonstrates good and safe work habits and enforces a clean working environment.
Adheres to all safety management system (OIMS) and quality management system (QMS) training, policies and procedures, including manuals, test procedures, work instructions and the monitoring and/or verification of equipment and processes relating to testing activities.
Knowledge of good laboratory practices, ex. Health & Safety, working with acids and other harmful reagents.
Accountable for the Health, Safety and Environment performance of self and colleagues and adherence to all regulations as per the Company Health and Safety Manual and the immediate reporting of any health, safety or environmental incidents, accidents, concerns or hazards to the Manager / Supervisor and H&S representative for action.
