Lab Technician (Res. Biology) - Contractor

Job Summary

This position will contribute to early R&D programs and clinical biomarker study programs in our Discovery Center of Excellence in Birmingham, Alabama. The Lab Technician has overall responsibility to maintain the organization of Biology lab including compound inventory, lab notes, and all lab equipment. The incumbent will also perform assigned duties to assist principal investigators to perform routine lab work.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for organizing inventory and storing compounds, reagents, and general lab supplies. This includes managing lab inventory of all reagents using Signals Notebook as well as gathering and entering SDS on SharePoint for all reagents in the lab.
  • Responsible for lab cleaning, defrosting the freezers, and general lab organization.
  • Assists with pharmacodynamic (PD) biomarker studies logistics including sample login, storage, and organization.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on various lab equipment including maintaining plate washers, descaling sinks/instruments, etc.
  • Prepares reagents for routine work by other lab workers (Biologists, etc.).
  • Responsible for organizing laboratory notebooks. This may include archiving old lab notebooks.
  • Provides other lab assistance as needed.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Associate degree or currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree (undergraduate) program with at least 1 year experience in a laboratory support/technician role (or similar) or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and willingness to help and support other lab members as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels in the organization, verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to lift 10 to 15 lbs (tanks, solutions, etc.)
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for intermittent periods throughout an 8-hour workday
