Position Summary

The Academic Learning Advisor will assist the Director of Education in program implementation for all educational, enrichment, and social welfare operations for the LA Galaxy Academy Boys (ages 14-18). This position will assist with the day to day operations consisting of management structures, policies, and protocols to create a culture conducive to academic achievement and positive youth development.

Daily Duties / Job Responsibilities

  • Reports student’s academic progress to the Director of Education. Supports in all aspects of the LA Galaxy Academy ( i.e. Enrichment program, leadership programs, parent engagement programs, college recruitment, counseling and college counseling programs)
  • Leads other Education Staff Members in creating lesson plans and forming respectful and professional culture through positive class-wide and individual interactions
  • Assists Director of Education with all operations and program implementation for academic enrichment programs pertaining to classroom management structures, policies, and protocols to create a learning environment conducive to student achievement and development through setting and maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations and a high standard of rigor.
  • Implements individualized academic success plans for students to adopt life-long learning skills and become independent and successful learners. Takes into account level of academic ability, academic history, learning disability, socioeconomic status, family background and level of education, to produce daily (if necessary) or weekly academic plans, time management structures, goal setting, and self-reflection on learning process to promote self-regulation.
  • Creates and delivers biweekly math lessons to support and engage students to succeed in a blended learning environment.
  • Monitors and tracks student progress- daily, weekly, monthly through the recording of lesson completion data, assessment scores, tracking pace in the curriculum, monitoring and encouraging student-teacher communication, tracking student attendance and conduct, and meeting with students 1-1.
  • Provide specific, high-quality academic feedback to students and parents regarding students’ academic behavioral standing.
  • Facilitate meetings with Content Area Specialists and other Learning Coach’s to achieve students’ highest academic potential.
  • Engage in professional development to stay up-to-date on best practices in student learning, motivation, and engagement (i.e. attending annual Better Together: CA Teachers Summit, engaging in monthly Education staff workshops conducted by the Director of Education, reading peer-reviewed literature, researching best practices of blended learning environments, and watching TED talks and other no-cost mediums providing insight into current best practices for promoting self-regulation in online learning).

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum education level of: BA/BS Degree (4-year): Math and Science preferred

Area Of Study

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience
  • Prior experience working with students
  • Prior training in teaching pedagogy and mentoring practices
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Apps, Education Apps and software installation
  • Ability to work with students to become life-long independent learners
  • Ability to help students adapt their traditional school study skills to be successful with online curriculum
  • Ability to implement classroom management strategies for a group of students in an educational environment
  • Ability to support students in Advanced Math Classes (Geometry, Algebra 2 and higher)
  • Ability to mentor and guide students through the learning process

Pay Scale: $67,000

AEG reserves the right to change or modify the employee’s job description whether orally or in writing, at any time during the employment relationship. AEG may require an employee to perform duties outside his/her normal description.
