Job Summary: As an Assignment Editor you are responsible for organizing news coverage for the day and assigning news crews to news stories for the most effective, competitive and high-quality local news product.
Job Responsibilities
Coordinate daily news and weather coverage by gathering and providing information, scheduling interviews, assigning stories, and dispatching crews.
Conduct briefings and updates regularly to inform staff and management of stories being covered, status of each and plans for next days coverage.
Responsible for tuning incoming feeds.
Monitor and ensure quality control of the on-air product.
Communicate with appropriate personnel regarding BCNG, satellite feeds, helicopter, and live shot locations.
Maintain contact with news sources, producers, reporters, networks, and news gathering services; monitor wire service, newspapers, magazines, radios, competition, police and fire scanners, phones, emails, and faxes in order to initiate and develop interesting and informative news stories.
Answer incoming viewer calls and inquires courteously and initiate appropriate action.
Monitors KWTV 2-way radio and responds to traffic from the field.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Schedule: This is a full-time position primarily working 40 hours per week. This schedule involves weekend mornings, and 3 morning shifts Monday-Wednesday. You may also be called upon at times to fill in other hours and days of the week to help cover vacations, illnesses, breaking news, severe weather, or special projects/events. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Skills And Requirements
Formal education equivalent of BS degree in broadcast related field preferred. Related experience will be evaluated by Company management and may be substituted on the basis of two years of experience equals one year of education.
Three years of experience as an Assignment Editor in a small to medium market preferred.
Solid background in the history and geography of Oklahoma preferred.
Knowledge of journalistic standards as they relate to on-air presentation of news.
Ability to direct and gain the cooperation of others.
Ability to organize and retrieve information and utilize proper new judgment.
Must have experience with newsroom computers.
Reacts quickly to information gained from the scanners.
Adequately keeps abreast of current events.
Ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned.
