Job Summary: The person in this role will be responsible for the planning and operation of KidZone and camp programing. He/she ensures compliance with state and federal regulations including national accreditation and state licensing. The KidZone manager will recruit and supervise staff and will provide professional development to staff to help ensure compliance with licensure, quality customer service and success of the program. He/she will assist with creating marketing materials about the program and promote the program through various channels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Develops, administers and oversees KidZone and camp programming.
  • Develops daily programming for KidZone locations.
  • Ensures that KidZone programs are aligned with state standards and federal regulations.
  • Maintains membership in and participates in professional organizations related to community education and recreation.
  • Assists with the maintenance and usage of the allocated budget; monitors expenditures, recommends adjustments.
  • Assists with the research and incorporation of nationally recognized trends, ideas, and standards.
  • Develops procedures to monitor the effectiveness of the programming.
  • Ensures safety protocol is followed.
  • Purchase and care for equipment and supplies.
  • Creates and disseminates marketing materials utilizing a variety of communication channels working in conjunction with Peoria Unified School District Public Relations Department.
  • Conducts direct and frequent observations of the programs.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all patrons.
  • Assists with the forecasting of revenues and expenses for the program and evaluates the program’s performance.
  • Prepares program and statistical reports.
  • Works with Site Administrators to determine program locations.
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff.
  • Assists with the licensure in conjunction with the Executive Director of Community Education for all KidZone programs run by the district.
  • Maintains acceptable accounting practices for grants and fees.
  • Responsible and accountable for sound fiscal management.
  • Provides monthly professional development for all KidZone staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize program issues.
  • Excellent problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must possess outstanding oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the public and others having business with the school district.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must also have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a supervisor OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in education, recreation, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience.

Other Requirements

Must be able to pass a fingerprint and background clearance check.

Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver’s license.

May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds.

May be required to work outside normal working hours
