Annual Salary: $80,870.40 - $97,864.00
Junior Engineer - Mechanical positions perform increasingly responsible professional level mechanical engineering work; check building plans for compliance with mechanical, fire suppression, including fire sprinklers, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), water, gas, sanitary piping, energy conservation, noise control, electrical codes and standards; perform control experiments on efficiency and expected life of mechanical equipment; calculate, review and verify mechanical and hydraulic adequacy; perform field assessments of installed mechanical infrastructure; consult with engineers, architects, and contractors regarding projects and plan modifications; prepare specifications; prepare construction cost estimates and assist with budgets; and perform other duties as assigned.
Notes
Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
- 2% effective 1/1/25
- 5% effective 7/1/25
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: You must meet ONE of the following options:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate issued from a state licensing board.
- Registration as a Professional Mechanical Engineer with a state licensing board
- Four years of full-time professional-level mechanical engineering experience. Qualifying professional-level experience MUST include:
- Checking building plans for compliance with mechanical and plumbing codes and standards.
- Calculating, reviewing, and verifying mechanical adequacy.
- Providing information to engineers, architects, and contractors regarding plan modification, building regulations and mechanical/plumbing design issues.
- Any combination of experience and education as specified above equaling four years.
LICENSE : A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE :
- Certification as a Mechanical, Plumbing, Green Building, Energy, or Fire Plans Examiner.
- Certification with the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) in Water-Based Systems Layout.
- Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, Fire Science, or a closely related field.
