ABOUT THE ROLE

The Junior Database Administrator (DBA) role is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a Senior Database Administrator to assist with day-to-day operational activities including break/fix, capacity management, backup and recovery, database replication and setup/management. You will employ techniques to proactively monitor SQL servers to prevent issues, and detect, report and resolve such issues minimizing or eliminating user impact. This position will have the opportunity to learn the following from a Senior SQL DBA:

• Advanced DBA skills through mentoring
• Performance analysis, identification of areas of improvement, implementation planning
• Database replication
• Database backup and recovery strategies
• Always On availability groups
  
  

Remote applicants are eligible for this position. EST time-zone work schedule is required.

WHAT WILL YOU BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?

• Work closely with senior DBA to design, implement, and maintain database infrastructure.
• Assist in creating efficient data structures and optimizing database performance.
• Monitor database systems, identify bottlenecks, and troubleshoot issues.
• Triage user-reported issues (tickets) related to database access, performance, connectivity, or data integrity.
• Analyze query performance, index usage, and resource utilization.
  
  

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WILL BE REQUIRED?

• Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in SQL Server
• Proficiency in SQL Server database management and administration
• Some experience working with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and ETL jobs.
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL/T-SQL queries and jobs.
• Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology-related field or related work experience
• 2 years of related database administration and application infrastructure experience
• Must have excellent organizational, planning, and technical skills to diagnose problems in an environment with constantly changing priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills
• Ability to work on small-to-complex projects that require skills in multiple technical environments.
• Ability to handle multiple projects/tasks simultaneously
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified SQL Server DBA is a plus.
• Redgate SQL Monitor or similar monitoring solution
• Solid working knowledge performing OS/DB migrations on prem and in azure environments/Installation, configuration, and support of SQL Server Integration Services, Reporting Services
• Experience working with large scale SQL Server databases.
• Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining Always-On Availability Groups
