IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN).

Duties

  • You will perform computer/network systems administration, analysis, design, and programming.
  • You will develop, modify or install new applications.
  • You will apply knowledge in multiple platforms, databases, and applications, including Windows Server and desktop environments, Unix/Linux, SQL, Visual Basic, C#, PowerShell, all Windows Office products, and legacy systems and applications.
  • You will apply knowledge on network hardware, including switches, hubs, routers, fiber, blade servers, and storage appliance.
  • You will be given some tasking in developing, maintaining, and improving efficiency and functionality in multi-platform, multi-site networks.
  • You will create tickets, respond to telephone calls, email/Teams messages.
  • You will investigate/resolve software application/hardware performance issues.
  • You will investigate/resolve Operating System errors or issues.
  • You will perform User Account Management Creation, Modifications, and Removals.
  • You will create, manage and/or update applicable process documentation.
  • You will provide Software and Hardware Support.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

FOR DS:03:

Your Resume Must Also Demonstrate At Least One Year Of Specialized Experience At Or Equivalent To The GS-07 Grade Level Or DS-02 Pay Band In The Federal Service Or Equivalent Experience In The Private Or Public Sector. Specialized Experience Must Demonstrate The Following:

  • Performing computer/network systems administration, analysis, design, and programming;
  • Applying knowledge in multiple platforms, databases, and applications, including Windows Server and desktop environments, Unix/Linux, Sun, SQL, Visual Basic, C#, PowerShell, all Windows Office products, and legacy systems and applications; and
  • Applying knowledge on network hardware, including switches, hubs, routers, fiber, blade servers, and exchange servers.

For Ds-04:

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or DS-03 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Maintenance, support, system/database design, automation, development of multi-platform classified networks, disaster recovery, servers, firewalls, and computers;
  • Developing, maintaining, and improving efficiency and functionality in multi-platform, multi-site networks;
  • Creates, manages, modifies, updates and performs backup for projects' databases; and
  • Develops, modifies and installs new applications.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

For Ds-03:

The following education may be substituted for specialized experience:

Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree

or

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree

For Ds-04:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

or

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
