Job Summary

Responsible for IT functions with the Naperville Heritage Society at Naper Settlement to include but not limited to network integrity, maintenance of databases, coordinating helpdesk tickets and computer upgrades/updates. Is the primary staff person to laisse with the City of Naperville IT department regarding city network and manage the closed network system for the Naperville Heritage Society. Provide IT knowledge and/ or support on digital, audio/ visual, and other IT projects.

Job Scope

No supervisory responsibility. The IT Specialist will assist in determining the hardware and software needs for the annual budget. The candidate will maintain knowledge of current IT and telecommunications technology and assist other staff as needed. The current and emerging technologies include but are not limited to optical transport networks, software defined networks, wireless, mobile, satellite ethernet, unified communications, IP/enterprise network infrastructures and cloud bases services. The position also requires that the successful candidate be responsible for institutional IT operations and system upgrades as it pertains to Naperville Heritage Society and Naper Settlement.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • PROVIDES network and server administration and oversight, including monitoring security and backup protocols.
  • PROVIDES day-to-day support and TROUBLESHOOTING of hardware and software to staff. ACTS as the main contact for IT inquiries.
  • ONBOARDS new staff with the set-up of their system along with the familiarizing of phones, printer and other technologies. In addition, ADMINISTERS new user accounts, work email addresses and access levels to new employees.
  • Laisse with City of Naperville IT staff to ensure appropriate IT operations and upgrades.
  • ENSURES that upgrades, integrations, patches, etc. of IT curatorial software systems, Blackbaud and other software are identified and completed appropriately and timely.
  • MAINTAINS inventory of all staff computers, printer, phones, iPads, microphones, radios, city cell phones, etc. PROVIDES a yearly budget for equipment and software.
  • PROVIDES AV support as it relates to projectors and audio systems located throughout the buildings. Suggests technology improvements and SUPPORTS DIGITAL projects on the museum campus.
  • PROVIDES technology training on equipment and software to all staff.
  • SERVES as the Naper Settlement representative on special city of Naperville/Naperville Heritage Society projects such as cameras, radio and card access projects.
  • ATTENDS the city’s IT Committee meetings. PROVIDES report to supervisor within a week.
  • WORKS in a COLLABORATIVE manner with all institutional staff
  • PROVIDES world-class customer services to museum visitors, members, staff, and constituents and asks exploratory questions to identify concerns, needs, and expectations as well as fully investigating visitor issues.

Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

  • Knowledge of networks, databases, and CRM systems required. Knowledge of ALTRU, FENxt, Blackbaud and curatorial cataloging systems preferred.
  • Proficiency with IT equipment and terminology.
  • Knowledge of audio-visual systems including but not limited to sound system setups, video conferencing equipment and software, projectors, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 plus a demonstrated aptitude for other computer applications.
  • Use of standard office equipment and knowledge of general office procedures required.
  • Exceptional, friendly, professional customer service skills.
  • Efficient organizational and multi-tasking skills.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to use a phone to receive and send information, including managing multiple lines.
  • Ability to proofread and check documents for errors.
  • Ability to use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transform words or data.
  • Ability to learn and work in a database system daily.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, members, volunteers and the general public.
  • Ability to be flexible, meet deadlines, be well organized, and pay attention to details.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work independently as well as to accept direction on given projects/assignments.
  • Ability to lift or carry 25 lbs or more.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs regularly, as well as walk and/or stand for an hour or more at a time.

Minimum Education, Experience And Certification Requirements

4-Year Degree or equivalent experience required with 2-3 or more years’ experience in IT network management and A/V setup and operation. Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Certification in database administration preferred or sufficient related experience.

  • CompTIA A+
  • Certified Technology Specialist (CTS®)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Valid Illinois Class A driver’s license required.
