About The Position

This is a unique opportunity for independent thinkers with journalism experience, who are seeking a career change.

As an investment analyst in the non-traditional team, you will use your reporting, source-building, and analytical skills to research large cap, publicly-traded companies worldwide, often by conducting interviews with former employees, competitors, suppliers, regulators, and offering your perspective on the potential long-term risks and opportunities within these companies.

Non-traditional analysts at GQG are key to our research mosaic as they bring in a differentiated view when looking at companies. They focus on understanding a company’s culture and management and look for risks that are underappreciated by those analyzing the business through traditional financial lenses. The role focuses on the qualitative aspects of the company.

It is an enriching opportunity to work alongside investment research professionals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, all working together towards creating value for our clients.

New analysts join our two to three year Analyst Development Program. For those that demonstrate the capability and potential to further develop into seasoned analysts, there is significant upside opportunity both in responsibility and compensation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work independently on a broad range of stock ideas.
  • Contact and gain access to a broad range of individuals who can help you understand a companies, industries and themes.
  • Develop clear, concise, and insightful write-ups.
  • Recommend stocks, that create a material impact on the book.
  • Communicate recommendations to the PM team in a clear, concise and effective manner.
  • Contribute fresh, new, and challenging perspectives and ideas.
  • Review a wide variety and diverse set of industries, sectors, and organizations.

Qualifications

  • Background in journalism – Bachelors/Masters and/or 2 years experience. Preferably including significant investigative reporting and some business-related coverage.
  • Global mindset.
  • Passionate and inquisitive.
  • Self starter – ability to work on deliverables and projects alone.
  • Pro-active, self-driven, and self-motivated.
  • Competitive team player.
  • Solid analytical/logical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence balanced with humility.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
