INVESTIGATOR, Chancellor's Office - Institute Discrimination and Harassment Response Office (IDHR) , to report to the manager of investigations and act as one of two designated investigators for complaints involving students alleging discrimination and harassment based on a protected category under the Institute’s non-discrimination and harassment policies. Will also investigate other complaints as the Institute requires, such as employee matters.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED : bachelor’s degree in a related field; three years’ relevant experience, some of which involved conducting sensitive and confidential investigations; knowledge of Title IX, the Clery Act, and federal civil rights laws or similar, including case law and agency interpretation; familiarity with witness interview and investigation techniques; experience conducting complex legal analysis, reaching legally sound determinations, and producing high-quality written work products; and excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills. Must be able to take initiative and independently organize, prioritize, and carry out detailed work under time constraints; work in and cultivate partnerships in MIT’s diverse community of students, staff, and faculty; and maintain impartiality in complex cases. PREFERRED : J.D. or another advanced degree in psychology, criminal justice, social work, etc.; experience conducting sensitive and confidential investigations in a higher education environment; experience with alternative dispute resolution practices; legal expertise in an educational arena; ability to exercise a high level of discretion and good judgment and quickly establish credibility with a broad range of constituents; discretion with confidential information, including that from individuals in distress; and familiarity with other federal statutes important to post-secondary education (e.g., VAWA, FERPA).
