Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking an instructor for its online, Fall Semester 2024, Intro to Research course for students in grades 9-12. This research course will introduce students across the state to the process of conducting scientific research including designing a research question, a literature review, gathering data, analyzing data, and writing conclusions. Students will be introduced to statistical modeling, scientific writing, and presentation skills.
This is a temporary part-time, 10 month, exempt position. This position has the ability to be completed remotely and the course is mostly asynchronous. Expected hours will vary by the number of enrolled students, but typically be 10 hours/week for a cohort of approximately 20-30 students. This position will begin in August 2024, with the actual course beginning toward the end of August. Courses run from late August through the end of December.

Work may be performed remotely. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This role generally requires, written and verbal communication, and hearing and visual capabilities. COMPENSATION
This position is a part-time, non- exempt, 10-month, employment-at-will position. Compensation is $44.00/hr. This position is not benefits eligible.

- Guiding and mentoring a group of high school students through a series of online learning modules
- Teaching students to conduct scientific research
- Utilizing the Canvas learning management system
- Teaching a diverse group of students in a multidisciplinary environment
- Using evolving technological tools to engage students in a virtual classroom
- Master’s degree in education or STEM with at least 5 years of relevant math experience at the secondary level.
- Broad content background in science
- Deep understanding of how to effectively communicate with students via a virtual learning environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
