Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented International Freight Lead to join their Chicagoland area team. The successful candidate will oversee and manage all aspects of international freight operations, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods across global borders. This role requires a deep understanding of international shipping regulations, strong organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders to ensure timely delivery and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Freight Operations Management:
Coordinate and oversee international freight shipments, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to budget.
Manage relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers to negotiate contracts and secure the best rates and services.
Monitor shipment status and troubleshoot any issues that arise during transit.
Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure all shipments comply with international trade regulations, including customs documentation, import/export laws, and shipping regulations.
Prepare and verify shipping documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists.
Stay updated on changes in international trade laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
Cost Control and Analysis:
Analyze freight costs and develop strategies to optimize and reduce transportation expenses.
Implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining service quality and compliance.
Prepare and present regular reports on freight costs, transit times, and operational performance.
Team Leadership and Coordination:
Lead and mentor a team of logistics coordinators and specialists, providing guidance and support.
Coordinate with internal departments such as sales, procurement, and customer service to ensure smooth and efficient freight operations.
Foster a collaborative work environment and promote continuous improvement within the team.
Risk Management:
Identify and mitigate risks associated with international freight transportation.
Develop contingency plans to address potential disruptions in the supply chain.
Ensure adherence to safety and security protocols throughout the transportation process.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in international freight operations, with a proven track record in managing global logistics.
In-depth knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance.
Strong negotiation skills and experience working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and carriers.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Proficient in logistics management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CSCMP) is a plus.
