Position Function
Applicant will be required to work closely with cattle.
Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Department Profile
Coastal Research and Extension Center serves as Mississippi State University's "southern exposure". South MS Branch Station, White Sands Unit, is headquarters of our beef cattle program.

Anticipated Appointment Date
February 2024.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Applicant must be willing and able to work around cattle - move cattle from pasture to pasture; feed cattle; mix feed according to specifications set by scientist; check water troughs. Collect and process biological samples from the field to the lab, data entry and some data management.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years old.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Basic knowledge of cattle; ability to see potential health problems; ability to follow detailed instructions. Must be able to operate a Kubota RTV and a 4-wheeler. Tractor experience would be a plus. Comfortable working with biological samples and data. Ability to get along with others.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Physical effort required; very limited exposure to physical risk; much of this work will be outside; must be able to handle all weather conditions; must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
