Basic Requirements For a Supervisory Biologist
A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
A combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Basic Requirements For Supervisory Geographer
A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning which includes at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
A combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Basic Requirements For Supervisory Physical Scientist
A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics which included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
A combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience, or additional education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Additional Qualification Requirements
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which involves: assisting in planning, directing, monitoring, and executing the Regulatory Permit Program, pursuant to Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, including the review of applications for residential or commercial development, and/or transportation, and/or mitigation related proposals. Administering and enforcing the program in compliance with governing public laws, regulations, interagency agreements, and policies of higher headquarters. Knowledge of State and Local Government Agency organization for management of environmental issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above)

Duties
- Supervises a staff of professional, technical, and clerical employees; establishes production goals, priorities, and major work schedules; evaluates performance, approves leave, and recommends disciplinary action for staff.
- Coordinates controversial and complex regulatory issues with the public, state and federal resource agencies, local government, higher headquarters and other Federal, state and private groups to ensure concerns are considered.
- Manages the Regulatory Permit Program, pursuant to Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, and its related laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Provides sound technical judgment based upon existing environmental/cultural resource/endangered species policies, directive, and regulations to recommend to higher level, the issuance, denial or conditioning of Federal permits.
- Reviews activities such as land clearing, fills in special aquatic sites, public and private commercial and residential development, construction of industrial plants, solid waste discharges, to produce defensible permit decision documents.
- Identifies and documents the limits of Waters of the United States based upon current regulations, policy and guidance
- Manages copious amounts of information, including internet-based resources, Geographic Information Systems, technical literature, regulations, policy and guidance in order to ensure decisions are made with the most current information available.
