Instrument/Analyzer Technician
PBF Energy Inc. (NYSE:PBF) is one of the largest independent refiners in North America, operating, through its subsidiaries, oil refineries and related facilities. We have an opportunity at our Martinez Refinery in California and are seeking a talented Instrument/Analyzer Technician to join our team as a pivotal member that would play a key role here at PBF Energy.
The Instrument/Analyzer Technician reports to the Instrument/Analyzer Shop Team Leader. This team plans and executes all instrument and analyzer work for the refinery. The successful candidate will work to install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot components of instrumentation and analyzer systems.
Instrumentation includes flow, temperature, pressure, and level displacers/transmitters, control circuits, electronic/pneumatic control valves and actuators, and programmable logic controllers (PLC). Analyzers include laser systems, mass spectrometry, gas analyzers (hydrogen, CO/CO2, H2S and combustion gases), and liquid measurement (pH, conductivity, sodium, and TOC).

The pay range for this position is from $53.46 up to $56.71 an hour based on qualification requirements in the CBA.

Job Responsibilities May Include:
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot various types of instruments and analyzers which involves:
- Operate handheld test equipment (including multi-meters, pressure calibrators, smart communicators, thermocouple/RTD simulators, dead weight testers, and meggers)
- Interpret loop drawings and electrical schematics
- Monitor the performance of installed instrumentation equipment
- Operate refinery vehicles, hand tools, and equipment including power lift equipment and man lifts
- Interface with the Engineering Department to identify opportunities to upgrade instrumentation to improve reliability via the Management of Change process
- Participate in testing of safety systems (SIF/IPF) to verify integrity of devices
- Communicate technical updates with Supervision and Operations personnel
- High school diploma or GED
- 3,000 hours of work experience in the instrument/analyzer trade or Accredited Trade School equivalent
- Qualified as a journeyman in the instrument/analyzer trade, minimum 8,000 hour of work experience
- Experience with programming and maintaining PLC and distributed control systems
- Experience with vibration monitoring systems and process analyzers (including chromatography, spectrometry, and electrochemistry)
- Experience with tools and diagnostic equipment used to troubleshoot, repair, replace and test instrument loops, electrical circuits, and equipment.
- Work Schedule:
- 9/80 Working Schedule
- Participation in callout coverage
- Occasionally an altered work schedule over an extended period may be required (maintenance outages and turnarounds)
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders
- Ability to navigate stairs
- Work in the Following Conditions:
- At heights
- Outside in inclement weather
- Occasionally wearing a respirator, Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR), or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
- Possess a valid Driver’s License
