Instructional Designer

The National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) is seeking an Instructional Designer to join the team! The Instructional Designer is responsible for leading NCFL's instructional technology practices and developing online training courses and modules using digital and eLearning authoring software tools. Instructional content will include graphics and interface design, multimedia programming, animation design and development, video editing, and audio production and recording. This position is responsible for developing and communicating course development standards, strategies, and content to Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), coworkers, learners, and other key stakeholders. The role will include management of NCFL's Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas, and other digital platforms.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Guides Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) through the course development process to create new eLearning courses and update existing online training materials.
  • Supports SMEs in the usage of the LMS and course facilitation.
  • Ensures alignment between learning objectives, assessments, and instructional materials.
  • Establishes a project plan timeline and milestones for development of each course and regularly communicates progress to all stakeholders.
  • Revises course content based upon feedback provided through internal review processes.
  • Writes and edits narration scripts. Records, produces, and edits video, screencasts, and audio for use in eLearning courses.
  • Researches internal systems, tools, and processes in order to produce training instructions.
  • Assists with the testing and deployment of new technology and training delivery methods.
  • Prepares regular and ad-hoc reports that measure curriculum completion and compliance.
  • Creates benchmarks to measure continuous improvement of new and existing training programs.

  • Share pertinent information with the supervisor/manager about work progress, successes, concerns and other issues that may have an impact on the services intended for families.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in education or related field. Master's degree in education, instructional design (or related field) preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in developing eLearning professional learning programs and materials.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in project management.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in eLearning standards and Adult Learning Theory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cross-generational learning practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • The ability to use hands and fingers to manipulate keyboard including some reaching requiring consistent use of hands and arms.

Salary Range -$60,000-$70,000
