The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Finance and Operations, Division of District Support, Data Support Branch has an opening for an Information Systems Manager position in Frankfort, KY.

The department seeks to hire a smart, experienced, hardworking, and dependable Information Systems Manager to join our dedicated team.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Manage the employees and activities of the Data Support Branch.
  • Responsible for the development, installation, maintenance and operation of data processing hardware and software for the Data Support Branch.
  • Manage employees involved in providing data processing technical services and activities of Data Support Branch.
  • Review completed work and ensure that all standards, specifications, and deadlines are met.
  • Evaluate workloads, procedures, methods and implement changes as necessary to increase performance and efficiency within the branch and the division.
  • Assign technology requests to appropriate personnel.
  • Review completed work and ensure all standard specifications and deadlines have been met.
  • Provide maintenance to existing technical systems in the Division of District Support.
  • Provide management assistance in the planning, design, development, implementation, installation, and maintenance of computer systems, ensuring departmental policies and procedures are followed.
  • Assist in new technology developments which support the mission of Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and the Division of District Support.
  • Provide direct supervision, including approval of leave requests and timesheets and completion of performance evaluations of employees.
  • Act as a liaison between the Division of the District Support and Office of Education Technology (OET) regarding technology improvements, changes, and upgrades including hardware and software changes.
  • Develop short and long range plans for the Data processing needs of the office.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of projects.
  • Prepare reports on the status of projects in the Branch.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of professional experience in computer programming, systems analysis, systems support, or computer operating systems.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Related technical or vocational training will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year for year basis. A master's degree in computer science will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in computer programming, systems analysis, and/or computer operations will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year for year basis. Experience in business or public administration, statistics, research, or a related field will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year for year basis.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
