The Role

The HR Manager leads a team of HR generalists and HR site administrators ensuring all HR programs and procedures adopted stay aligned with the business’s values. The HR Manager plays a vital role in fostering a positive working environment and enhancing the employee experience through dedicated employee relations support. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Manager serves as the initial contact for all employee relations matters. The Manager's primary responsibilities include facilitating a great employee experience by conducting complex and sensitive investigations, providing guidance on policy and job-related conflicts, and assisting with grievance and dispute resolution. In addition, the Manager supports the organization through the corrective disciplinary process and ensures the proper application of employment legislation. The Manager will further facilitate the employee experience through on and off boarding, staff development, and supporting the department's daily administrative operations and overall HR excellence.

The HR Manager brings a mix of business acumen, employee relations, organization development, and human resources expertise coupled with communication and collaboration skills required to aid in guidance and development of human resources functions across all business units.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Schedules and facilitates new employee orientation sessions for all new hires to ensure a seamless first day experience. Works closely with department managers and the HR Generalists to ensure that all hires participate in the orientation program.
  • Assists in implementation of an impactful onboarding program that goes beyond the first day; monitors the program’s effectiveness and contributes to its ongoing improvement
  • Works with the Director of Human Resources to develop and administer retention and employee engagement initiatives
  • Facilitates development, coordination, implementation and scheduling of staff training across the business units. Tracks and monitors employee training.
  • Facilitate the performance management process, training and documentation review
  • Facilitates off-boarding and coordinating departing employee activities, including conducting exit interviews
  • Monitor employee development and promotion opportunities
  • Collaborate with HR recruiting to assist in identifying eligible candidates
  • Monitor compliance with the competency program
  • Support hiring supervisors to coach and improve behavior
  • Facilitate talent goal setting and career path progression
  • Monitor leave and return to work compliance
  • Coordinate workers compensation claim administration
  • Drive a culture of constant improvement, identifying and implementing projects in order to increase business wide employee effectiveness and retention
  • Provide support in implementing and integrating the employment brand and employee culture throughout the organization
  • Coordinate an exit interview program
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Human Resources Management.
  • Willingness to work both independently and as a team to meet quick deadlines and objectives.
  • Must be able to travel routinely via airplane and/or vehicle and often times for consecutive days.

Technical Knowledge And Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, case law, principles, and best practices related to negotiating and administering labor agreements and employee relations matters.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Working experience using Success Factors and/or Kronos preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management or a related discipline.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills required.
  • Extensive experience with employee relations, progressive disciplinary processes, performance management administration, and guidance on collective bargaining agreements, employee and manager coaching, training, and workplace investigations
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience, knowledge and proven success across a broad range of HR disciplines and practices, including experience with a unionized workforce
  • Self-starter, strong interpersonal communication skills with all levels of colleagues, comfortable working with executive management.
