This position works as a part of the HR team as a passionate HR Generalist to support our 900+ person team. You'll partner with leaders on strategic HR initiatives, lead the full talent acquisition cycle to attract top talent, manage performance evaluations, administer leave programs, FMLA/ADA administration, ensure accurate job descriptions and participate in workforce planning, provide expert guidance to managers on employment law and HR practices, analyze data to inform decisions, and contribute your HR expertise on departmental committees. We require a minimum of two years of HR experience, ideally in government/non-profit, with a proven track record in talent acquisition, performance management, leave administration, and compliance. Strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and HRIS proficiency are essential. May provide direct supervision of other staff on the HR Team. The HR Generalist duties include:

  • Manages recruitment initiatives of assigned division(s); provides consultation on the recruitment and selection process, procedures, and regulations to ensure agency compliance.
  • Provides supervisors and managers with guidance and support in managing employee performance and addressing employee relations issues.
  • Serves as FMLA Coordinator for assigned division(s); documents, prepares correspondence, and tracks FMLA requests and ensures compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Interprets departmental HR policies and procedures and makes recommendations to improve departmental HR practices and processes.
  • Collects, analyze and summarize a comprehensive range of workforce data to support data-driven decision making across HR functions.

Required Knowledge Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of human resources administration and management principles and practices;

Ability to perform a variety of increasingly complex work in human resources;

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;

Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software to prepare documents and store, manipulate, analyze and present information;

Ability to train and supervise staff.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in human resource management, public administration, or a related field; plus two years of professional-level human resources experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and a child protective services check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least two years of experience managing recruitment and selection processes.
  • Experience coordinating HR compliance requirements and managing the processes for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the American Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Experience consulting on performance management.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing workforce performance data and trends.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, strong knowledge/experience in interpreting and explaining regulations, policies and processes to all levels of employees.
  • Excellent written and communication skills, detailed oriented, is proactive and flexible in their approach to work priorities and solves problems creatively.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word).
  • Proficiency in human resource information systems (e.g., SAP/FOCUS, Microsoft Dynamics, and/or SharePoint).
  • Possession of a current HR professional certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is generally sedentary; however, employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs and carry equipment up to 25 pounds in weight as required for the position. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to communicate clearly with others, orally and in writing, and make presentations. Ability to travel to other sites to attend meetings/trainings. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Panel interview and may include a practical exercise.
