Job Summary

Provide clients who are at risk of foreclosure and eviction with counseling, education and the services necessary to prevent homelessness. Senior Housing Retention Counselor will also be responsible for outreach, including representing CHI at industry events and professional organizations; building relationships and publicizing the agency’s services to increase the number of new clients. Responsible for reporting and compliance in accordance with New York State & HUD requirements, which includes database and file management.

Eviction Prevention

JOB-RELATED DUTIES – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage intake of eviction prevention applications, including organizing files and maintaining waitlist
  • Review all applications to determine the eligibility of an applicant for CHI’s eviction prevention assistance
  • Conduct an eligibility and affordability analysis for every completed application that is submitted. Including but not limited to; credit report review, income documentation review, monthly household budget review, verification of employment and other relevant documentation required as part of the application review process
  • Conduct outreach in the community to promote the program
  • Track client interaction and maintain a weekly report in Excel
  • Follow up with clients to determine if grant funding was awarded and trouble shoot any areas
  • Participate in bi-weekly consortium meetings to discuss progress of the program
  • Be knowledgeable of community resources and other eviction prevention programs
  • Schedule and facilitate workshops on financial literacy topics i.e. credit, money management
  • Become a HUD-Certified Housing Counselor within the first six months of employment
  • Complete Eviction Prevention Certification Training

Foreclosure Prevention

  • Counseling clients, including review of financial and legal documents. Counselor must provide advice and information to educate the client on their options regarding home ownership, mortgage status, foreclosure, and home sales.
  • Counselor must also be able to assist client with deed in lieu of foreclosure process or a short sale and other resolution of delinquency or foreclosure.
  • Attend court regularly, and offer assistance to new clients attending foreclosure conferences, as well as existing clients.
  • Work with the lender or servicer to obtain a modification; and work with law firms involved in the process.

  • Keep track of application deadlines, final report due dates, and update spreadsheet.
  • Collaborate and meet with participating lenders.
  • Ensure HOPP yearly bi-monthly data reports, interim and final reports for the foreclosure prevention program.
  • Responsible for reporting and compliance in accordance with New York State & HUD requirements.
  • Keep track of workshops, outreach events, trainings, etc. that occurred during the year
  • Assist with website up to date and develop other marketing opportunities
  • Complete Foreclosure Certification Training
  • This job requires personal transportation that will allow travel within the designated market area, travel expenses will be reimbursed

Salary: $27.88 an hour - $57,990.40 annually

Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm

Education

ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Three years of housing counseling, banking and/or financial services experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Bachelor’s degree with one year banking experience preferred.

Special Knowledge And Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports & common legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community
  • Ability to calculate figures such as income, interest, commissions and percentages
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in fast-paced, multi-task and multi-cultural work environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Must have strong verbal, typing and writing skills as well as legible handwriting
  • Must have advanced experience with Microsoft Office software, be able to use e-mail and navigate the internet as well as web-based databases
