Position Overview

Reporting to the Buildings and Grounds Manager and to the Head of Operations (HOO), this position is responsible for supervising the building attendant staff and ensuring the museum facilities (front and back of house) are well maintained in a clean, orderly, and attractive environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Essential Job Functions

  • Under the direction of the B&G Manager and/or HOO, this role oversees and supervises the activities of building attendants including staff schedules, assigning housekeeping tasks and ensuring the team efficiently completes any delegated duties.
  • Provides orientation and training to building attendants regarding maintenance standards, procedures, and regulations including cleaning and maintenance methods, and guidelines for using supplies and equipment.
  • Works with and supervises the building attendant staff to always maintain the facilities in excellent physical and clean condition for staff, volunteers, and visitors daily and at all times.
  • Monitors and supervises the preparation of the facilities in relation to events, programs, and rentals including weddings to ensure they provide a clean, orderly, and attractive environment.
  • Responsible for checking building supply inventory and maintaining adequate stock levels by ordering supplies in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for organizing maintenance areas, including closets and back of house spaces as well as scheduling and maintaining routine cleaning and maintenance of the buildings and restrooms.
  • Assists B&G Manager and/or the HOO in developing and implementing a Facility Maintenance Plan including weekly and monthly event and building reports.
  • Assists the B&G Manager and/or the HOO in supervision of outsourced vendors to ensure work is performed satisfactorily.
  • Coordinates and oversees setup, teardown, and cleaning of furniture, materials, and supplies for meetings, museum functions, and rental events.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment to ensure its proper operation and readiness for future use as well as preventative maintenance including some building features such as drinking fountains.
  • Assists B&G Manager and/or the HOO in practicing, modeling, and enforcing safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with other Supervisors and other departments.
  • Uses company vehicle for pickup/delivery of parts and supplies as needed.
  • Handles multiple priorities in a high-paced environment.
  • This position is considered an “Essential” position and will be called upon to work during unexpected Museum emergencies. Some evening and weekend work will be required depending on the needs of the Museum and in coordination with the B&G Manager and/or HOO.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirement:

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English to complete work efficiently, effectively, and courteously is required. Must be dependable and reliable. Must have knowledge, skills, and abilities in using computers. Detail-oriented and thorough. Ability to follow through on instructions with minimal supervision required.

Other Skills:

Must be able to pass a physical exam and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Must be able to climb ladders and perform work in an outdoor environment during all seasons.

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid operator's license, have proof of insurance, and have a good driving record.

Must have flexibility in working hours, some nights and weekends required. Will be required to respond to service calls at any time.

Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Education: High School Diploma/GED required.

Work Experience:

Experience in supervising and coordinating activities of workers engaged in cleaning and maintaining organization’s premises. Six months or more of supervisory experience with assigning tasks to workers and inspecting completed work for conformance standard.
