Housekeeper Supervisor

The Housekeeping Supervisor oversees and assists the General Manager, Assistant General Manager with the operation of the housekeeping and laundry departments to ensure that the hotel guest rooms, public spaces, and other areas of the hotels are immaculately clean, organized, and sanitary.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Assists in the hiring, training, and career development of all housekeeping employees; assists with performance evaluations and communicating performance standards to employees.
  • Inspects the level of cleanliness in guest rooms, storage areas, laundry areas, restrooms, and public areas. Reports needed improvements to subordinates and managers.
  • May assist in scheduling staff according to standards and forecasted occupancy; may assign daily work tasks to employees.
  • Distributes keys and work assignments to staff while maintaining the security of equipment and other supplies issued..
  • Ensures cleaning and servicing of guest rooms is carried out in a timely and organized manner according to procedures and standards.
  • Notifies guest services (front desk) when service is complete so rooms may be sold. Reports any room unable to be serviced within appropriate time standards to supervisor.
  • Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner. Reports appropriate guest complaints or requests to the appropriate department. Follows up to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Reports needed repairs of unsafe conditions to supervisor. Documents and communicates maintenance requests to the Engineering Department to ensure hotel service quality standards are met.
  • Assists with the coordination of the ordering and receiving of linen and cleaning supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels necessary for efficient operation of the department; assists with monthly linen and supply inventory.
  • Follows company policies and procedures and is able to effectively communicate them to subordinates.
  • Works with staff to ensure linen cart and supplies neat and organized to department standards.
  • Works with staff to ensure lost and found articles are turned into supervisor and secured properly.
  • Follows procedures for team cleaning and self-inspecting program.
  • Displays a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.

Qualifications


  • Education/Experience: Basic reading, writing, and math. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • At least one year in housekeeping is preferred.
  • Certification and/or License Requirement: None required.

  • A great deal of time is spent inspecting rooms and public areas usually accomplished by walking to each area assigned, and communicating with employees. A small amount of time is spent unlocking, opening, and closing such items as doors or drawers.
  • The person in this position spends a small amount of time utilizing problem-solving, counseling, reasoning, motivating, and training abilities.
  • Communication devices such as the telephone or pager may be used for such functions as communicating with the housekeeping department while on the floor.
  • Many times, a Housekeeping Supervisor will assist the Housepersons or Room Attendants by helping to clean rooms or public areas. This will involve bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Carrying and/or lifting approximately 50 pounds and pushing and/or pulling approximately 200 pounds occurs frequently.
