We are seeking a meticulous and knowledgeable Medical Coding Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for assigning accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures using the appropriate classification systems across all patient classes. Your expertise in ICD-10 CM and CPT4 coding principles will ensure that our records reflect patients' conditions, including their comorbidities and complications, accurately. You will also be responsible for abstracting data from medical records and auditing them to verify coding and grouping accuracy. Collaboration with our billing department is crucial to correct coding and billing claim errors effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures according to the appropriate classification system for all patient classes.
Utilize coding principles to assign appropriate ICD-10 CM diagnoses and ICD-10 CM/CPT4 procedures.
Ensure codes accurately reflect patients' comorbidities and complications of their conditions.
Abstract data from medical records and audit records to verify coding and grouping accuracy.
Collaborate with the billing department to correct coding and billing claim errors.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
An Associate's degree is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or coding certification (CCS or CPC) is required.
Minimum of one (1) year of coding experience with ICD-10 and CPT.
Knowledge of Rural Health Clinic (RHC) and Critical Access Hospital (CAH) standards, as well as state medical record requirements, is preferred.
