Job Summary

The Department of Athletics is seeking an Head Women’s Basketball Strength and Conditioning Coach. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Head Women’s Basketball Strength and Conditioning Coach assists in the organization, administration and promotion of all aspects of the Oregon State Strength and Conditioning (Athlete Development) Program.

This position specifically designs, maintains, supervises, and evaluates the Strength and Conditioning Program for Women’s Basketball and assigned Olympic sport(s) and each specialized position the sports afford.

Coaching includes instruction and athletic supervision of the athletes, program management for the specific area assigned and preparation of recommendations to the Head Coach/Director and Director of Athletics.

The Coach will adhere to the policies set forth by direct supervisors, Head Coach/Director and Athletic Director, as well as Oregon State University, the PAC -12 Conference and The National Collegiate Athletic Association

Key Responsibilities

60% COACHING

Provide consultation and expert advice to Head Coach and team members regarding the progress of each student-athlete relative to their specific position for Women’s Basketball. Prepare, plan, conduct, and evaluate practice sessions, as directed. Teach individuals and groups of players’ specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice, during season and off-season. Teach progressions and drills during daily practice time. Be available to coaches and players before, during and after practices.

15% TEAM ADMINISTRATION

Plan long and short-term team objectives under the leadership of the Head Coach. Establish requirements for team members in terms of athletic progress. Encourage and participate in activities that foster an environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and fosters a sense of belonging for both student athletes, student workers and colleagues.

10% RECRUITMENT

Prepare and distribute recruiting information. Participate in campus visits with prospective student-athletes and their parents.

10% Facility Operations

Support daily operations of the P. Wayne Valley Sports Performance Center.

5% CAMPUS / COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION

Interact with various campus offices, departments, as well as individual faculty and staff members. Serve as guest speaker at public events on behalf of OSU Athletics. Participates in various athletics camps held at OSU facilities and has access to participants which include minors.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current certification in either National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist ( CSCS ) and / or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified ( SCCC ).
  • Must have a current certification in CPR , AED and First Aid.
  • Two (2) years of full-time (Graduate Assistant included) NCAA or Professional strength and conditioning coaching experience in the sport of Basketball with a demonstrated competency in the safe and effective development of strength and conditioning training and with the necessary training to respond to emergency situations arising from that training.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a manner that shows respect and inclusivity for student athletes, student workers and colleagues.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

  • Former Collegiate Student-athlete.
  • Two (2) Years of full-time (Graduate Assistant included) NCAA or Professional Women’s Basketball Strength and Conditioning experience

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Some evening, weekend and early morning work required.

The employee in this position will often be required to lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing 200 pounds.

Access to expensive equipment.

Will be involved in coordination of a Youth Program (camp) and may have one-on-one access to youth under the age of 18.

May have access to personal and medical information.
