Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach provides staff a safe and functional environment for the purpose of developing cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance and specified training to the student-athletes in compliance with Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) and NCAA policies.

Essential Duties

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Develops schedules for all sports/athletes on a team and/or individual basis.

Establishes training programs specified for each team/student athlete to fit their needs.

Interacts with coaches and athletes to improve the strength and power base and develop correct exercise techniques.

Conduct a strength and conditioning program in compliance with all applicable NCAA, MIAA, State, National and Institutional rules and regulations while actively promoting a culture of compliance.

Coordinates Individualized programs to improve physical conditioning to enhance sport performance.

Investigates and researches strength and conditioning techniques.

Tests and evaluates new strength and conditioning approaches and equipment to determine value with regard to assigned sport.

Interacts and communicates effectively with student-athletes on a regular basis.

Supervises weight room and oversees the maintenance of a clean and positive environment.

Works closely with the athletic training staff to develop injury / surgery rehabilitation of student-athletes.

Performs athletic administration and support activities, including regular attendance at department meetings.

Oversees interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Performs Other Related Duties As Required.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

Master’s degree in Kinesiology and/or a sports training program with emphasis on health promotions or related field required.

Requires a certification with either Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or USA Weightlifting (USA-W).

Four years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

CPR/AED/First Aid Certification is required.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to be flexible in working long hours with many student athletes.
  • Ability to demonstrate a professional philosophy that supports student athlete welfare and is in accordance with MSSU and NCAA policies.
  • Requires the ability to be accountable for inventory/property management.
  • Requires the ability to manage the budget within assigned department.
  • Requires the ability to oversee purchasing authority up to $5,000.
  • Requires the ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for data entry.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
  • Requires the ability to use or repair small/light equipment.

Must be able to use strength and condition equipment and demonstrate approaches and techniques of strength and conditioning. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
