Job Description

The Lighting Department Head role at Sound Investment ensures that all components of the Lighting Department are operating in unison to meet and maintain a high level of service to SI’s clients. This role also manages the correct implementation and training of rigging systems and drafting through Vectorworks or other company-approved software standards. This position reports directly to the Production Manager.

Basic Qualifications

• Minimum eight years in a leadership role for live event lighting services
• Comprehensive and undeniable effectiveness in all facets of lighting event production
  
  

Core Responsibilities

• Responsible for all lighting and rigging systems oversight, design, implementation, and management
• Review all lighting implementations and either approve or correct them as needed
• Mentor and train project management on Vectorworks best practices and help define and develop company standards
• Review and report on individual performance to the Production Manager
• Solely responsible for lighting department hiring in warehouse and field, including full-time staff and freelance
• Actively onboard, mentor, and train new hires and existing staff
• Responsible for all lighting tech scheduling, skills assessment, development, and disciplinary action up to and including termination
• Manage lighting department’s company PTO and sick time based on company standard
• Ensure all warehouse projects are scheduled in advance, necessary, and completed promptly
• Work with sub-rent vendors to achieve the best pricing for the lighting department and help the project management team with the best equipment over-hire practices
• Review and ensure lighting and rigging inventory system is correct, implement proper maintenance, provide ROI on inventory, and assist and consult departmental expenditures
• Attend events to ensure company standards are met and to capitalize on training and mentoring opportunities
• Execute limited high-level events as Lighting Director and Rigging Supervisor
• Project Manage events as needed

Compensation

A comprehensive compensation package including salary, commissions, medical and dental insurance, vacation and holidays will be offered.
