Silver Lions Farms is looking for an experienced leader to join our team as the Head of Greenhouse Operations & Production in Ely, Nevada.

The Head of Greenhouse Operations & Production is responsible for leading our indoor grow and production team in our indoor “Glasshouse” facility located in White Pine County, NV. The facility is a 250,000+ square foot state-of-the-art Certhon (Dutch designed and built) glasshouse with Supreme Air and full computer automation using full computer controls (Priva). This senior level role willmanage production, harvesting, processing, and maintenance of our facilities, and will play a key role in planning and managing budgeting in partnership with business operations.

Our ideal candidate is a seasoned, accountable, and professional leader with several years of experience managing greenhouse operations and production and an expert in managing and developing a team. Experience optimizing production efficiency, maintaining quality standards, managing maintenance, and ensuring the continued readiness of all capital infrastructure within our facilities is crucial for this position.

Location: We provide onsite housing for this position, which is in a remote, high-desert region of northeastern Nevada. This is not a remote or hybrid position.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

Indoor Growing & Processing

  • Oversees the Greenhouse Cultivation and Production teams and ensures that weekly and monthly schedules and cadences are being met
  • Oversees the acquisition of all raw materials, such as seeds and fertilizer, in quantities required to support the grow plan
  • Works with internal and external partners to strategize, plan, and execute greenhouse operations

Facilities & Maintenance

  • Acting liaison between Silver Lion Farms and the facility manufacturer, Certhon
  • Oversees the equipment maintenance and repair function to ensure that preventative maintenance services (PMS) and repairs are completed on time and capital equipment is maintained and ready as scheduled
  • Works with internal and external partners to strategize, plan, and execute glasshouse construction, maintenance, and operations
  • Enforces job site safety standards

Grow Facility “Glasshouse” Systems

  • Responsible for implementing glasshouse systems and manufacturing processes
  • Manages glasshouse system operations, process, design, planning, control, performance improvement efficiencies, and operations strategies
  • Regularly check glasshouse systems for efficiency and accuracy and troubleshoot issues
  • Analyzes glasshouse production metrics and makes recommendations for improvements and solutions to issues
  • Works directly with cultivation to create and maintain a productive environment for all seeds, seedlings, and biomass contained within facilities
  • Create SOPS and train staff to maintaincapital equipment and systems
  • Reports all changes, updates, and risks to the executive team

Quality Control

  • Oversees quality control to ensure that outcomes meet standards

Safety & State Compliance

  • Enforces safety and OSHA requirements
  • Ensures adherence to the Nevada Department of Agriculture and all Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) regulations
  • Stays current with and assures legal compliance with all regulations

Budgeting

  • Works directly with the CEO/General Manager to create and manage all relevant labor, construction, facility, and systems budgets and project timelines

Management

  • This position leads and manages the entire production team, including greenhouse leads and Laborers

Minimum Requirements

Education And Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of management experience in a glasshouse production environment; direct management of 15+ individuals is required
  • 3+ years of experience with automated irrigation and fertigation systems (we use Priva)
  • Willing and available to work outside of shift hours and respond to alerts and emergencies (power outages, labor issues, etc.) as required
  • Expert knowledge of greenhouse operations and equipment for growing hemp
  • In-depth knowledge & understanding of Lean, Six Sigma and certifications are a plus

Strategic Thinking:The ability to set and implement overall strategy, policy, and procedure to drive process and improvement within the company. The ability to make critical and thoughtful decisions concerning staff management, labor, overall strategy, and demanding timelines.

Compliance:Basic understanding of safety and labor compliances, not limited to permitting, licensing, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations, Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) regulations, safety protocols, and crop testing. Familiarity with environmental protection practices.

Indoor Production: Thorough knowledge of indoor growing, entire hemp and cannabis growth cycles, planting preparation, transplanting, cultivation, and labor management.

IPM: Understanding of pest and disease management techniques.

Adaptability:Adapts and thrives in a demanding, early-stage environment.

Additional Requirements 

  • Must pass required background checks. 
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.  
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Must be able to get approval from the state agency to work in the cannabis industry

Physical Demands  

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds at times

  • Using close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
