Responsibilities
Act as the foremost authority in managing the financial health of our company.
Hire, oversee, and guide a small accounting team (one US, one Mexico) - providing training, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Maintain and uplevel financial systems, policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accurate and efficient financial operations.
Preserve adaptability while navigating unexpected situations, which may occur as we get the right systems and supporting processes in place. Actively think outside of the “FP&A” box as we solve these one-off issues.
Collaborate with the CEO to develop and execute the financial strategy of the organization, aligning it with the overall business goals and objectives.
Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations including all bookkeeping and payroll, AP and AR.
Work on compliance internationally - registrations, reporting, end of year taxes - across the US and Mexico. Coordinate efforts with external CPA and Mexico-based accounting firm.
Create and implement quarterly and annual budgets, forecasting results, and analyzing cash flow and profits.
Assess and manage financial risks, developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring adequate insurance coverage.
Collaborate with external stakeholders including auditors, vendors, and financial institutions, and build strong relationships with client-side team members.
Evaluate financial implications of growth strategies and new initiatives.
Work closely with the leadership team to ensure that the organization is financially stable and operating efficiently.
Skills and Qualifications
10+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or related field within a corporate environment, with at least 5 years in a management role
Ability to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial information and operations, while maturing underlying processes
Deep experience with financial reporting and analysis, including cash flow management, payroll, AP and AR, and tax compliance (ideal but not required)
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Willingness to “roll up sleeves” and get things done, even with “ground-level” accounting tasks (e.g. bank and credit card reconciliations, processing payroll)
Strong sense of ownership and responsibility: self-driven, takes the initiative to observe areas for improvement and do the work to improve them
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate efficiently and to reduce complex situations to proposals and recommendations
Flexibility to work in a start-up and high-growth environment
High level of discretion and commitment to confidentiality
Strong ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
CPA ideal, but not required
