Head of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion - Moulin Rouge! The Musical

“Everyone is welcome at the Moulin Rouge!” – Harold Zidler

Moulin Rouge! The Musical seeks a strategic leader, skilled communicator and collaborative ED&I executive to partner with our leadership team to drive transformational change within our organization and our industry. We understand that creating an inclusive environment is not the responsibility of one person or one office alone and can assure all candidates that they will be working alongside a motivated team who are committed to immediate, medium-term and long-term solutions to meet the goals further enumerated below.

The Head of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will play a pivotal role in creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace plan and drive integrated strategies, programs and initiatives to provide our company with the tools required to embed Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in our culture and day to day operations. Moulin Rouge! the Musical is based on a world in which all are welcome. One of the great strengths of the show and part of its success is the incredibly talented and diverse group of performers on stage.

We seek to create a company in which that level of diversity is matched off-stage, backstage and in positions of management to ensure varying perspectives are represented “at the table”.

Company Background

Moulin Rouge! The Musical is the hit theatrical stage production of the internationally acclaimed 2001 Baz Luhrmann film, developed and produced by Global Creatures, an Australia-based company specializing in producing new theatrical works combining innovative stagecraft and spectacular theatricality. It opened to wide acclaim and sell-out business on Broadway in the summer of 2019 and has been nominated for 14 Tony Awards ®.

The show continued to break box office records at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre until the Broadway-wide shut-down due to Covid in March of 2020. Plans are now underway to resume performances in the fall of 2021. An Australian production will open in August of 2021, with a London production opening in late 2021 and a North American Touring production opening in early 2022. This role will focus primarily on the Broadway production and the North American Tour.

The Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical has approximately 50 full-time employees, while also employing dozens of creative freelance artists who, in conjunction with the producers, helped to develop and realize the production over many years on its road to Broadway. Company leadership and management also collaborate very closely with various outside agencies providing marketing, press and advertising services as well as the management of the theatre venue.
