Playback Rewards is seeking a Head of Engineering at the director or senior manager level to join our startup team and help build a powerful, scalable video game rewards platform. In this role, you’ll lead a team of developers while contributing to code and will guide design and architecture decisions.

You’ll join a passionate, early-stage team of industry veterans who are looking to make a big impact in the global video games industry.

We offer a competitive salary range of $140k-$180k annually; 4 weeks of flexible paid time off and company holidays; comprehensive health, dental, vision insurance (all 50% company paid); and a 401k plan (with 4% company match).

Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategy and architecture development for our React/Typescript/Node.js code base, taking our product from its current early stage to full production and scaling to millions of users
- Collaborate on fast-iterating delivery of feature requirements, bridging development with product, design, and analytics teams
- Make impactful hands-on code contributions across our full stack
- Manage and growing our development team (currently 2 senior contributors) and an external dev partner, supporting a strong startup development culture
- Implement CI/CD pipelines to automate the build, test, and deployment processes, ensuring rapid and reliable delivery of code to production
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to team members and ensuring code quality and consistency.
- Identify opportunities to enhance our technology and innovate
- 7+ years of experience in professional web application development
- 2+ years of direct people management experience (additionally, experience managing external development resources) in a startup environment
- Extensive experience developing and deploying public-facing React applications to mobile production environments
- Extensive experience in developing and architecting scalable backend systems using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Experience architecting systems that utilize real-time data streaming and messaging
- Experience with architecting and deploying complex cloud solutions on GCP, Azure, AWS, and/or Firebase
- Experience in supporting and leading teams in Agile methodologies and technologies
- Strong understanding of API development and integrations
- A builder/doer mentality
- Focus on supporting and serving business goals
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with an orientation toward communication and teamwork
- An understanding of the tradeoffs and process needed in an early stage company to quickly move a product from early stage to production
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent foundational technical experience)
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Firestore
- Experience with CSS, animation frameworks, and responsive design
