Role Overview
As the Head of Engineering, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to our client's engineering initiatives as they embark on a mission to become an AI-medical assistant company. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will lead a dedicated team of Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers to develop an all-in-one AI-medical assistant platform and cutting-edge AI models and tools. You will be one of the first engineers to join the team and will work closely with the co-founders.
In this role, you will collaborate with the Engineering, Data, Product, and other teams to lay the foundation of engineering to build user safety, algorithms, recommendation engines, AI-generated interactions, and more. Our client seeks someone with extensive experience in building AI teams and platforms, passionate about solving complex and important problems related to healthcare.
Key Responsibilities:
Hands-on leadership, coding daily to oversee the development and maintenance of an AI-medical assistant platform enabling rapid creation, testing, and deployment of machine learning models (scalable and developed with bias mitigation in mind)
Team Leadership and Development: Recruiting Engineers, contractors, and agencies to build a world-class Data Science and Machine Learning team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment
AI Model Development: Delivering features rapidly, leading the development and deployment of advanced AI models to enhance user experience, safety, and outcomes across the product funnel (ideation, model development, validation, and implementation)
Innovation: Driving First Principles thinking while keeping abreast of the latest AI trends, platforms, applications, and best practices, advising on potential adoption to drive competitive advantage
Privacy, Security, Compliance: Building secure, privacy-preserving, and compliant products with the user's best interest in mind, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements like SOC2, HIPAA, etc
Operational Efficiency: Implementing AI tools to optimize operations across the organization, working closely with cross-functional teams to understand customer needs and develop AI solutions for improvement. Fostering a data-driven culture
Strategic Planning: Collaborating with tech leadership and the executive team to define our client's strategy and goals, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives
Qualifications:
BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or a related field (PhD preferred)
Minimum 5 years of experience working on comprehensive full-stack solutions, delivering intuitive products used by 100K+ customers
Deep knowledge and expertise of ReactJS, NodeJS/Express, Bootstrap/Tailwind, noSQL or relational databases
Proven leadership experience, preferably in a product-led tech company with a Growth Mindset. Technical Co-founder or technical leadership experience is a plus
Exceptional individual contributor with a strong track record of building, managing, and developing high-performing teams without compromising talent quality
Expert in modern AI technologies (including generative AI), machine learning models, data analytics, and the underlying infrastructure & engineering to reliably deploy these models at scale
Expert in Machine Learning and building reliable/high availability AI/ML systems
Ability to communicate complex data insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders
Highly motivated, proactive, and collaborative team player with the ability to persuade others and influence outcomes
Location:
This is a hybrid role based in the Santa Clara, CA area. The typical hybrid schedule follows an office-centric model, with employees working on-site Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays each week. Remote work is supported on Mondays and Fridays, enabling a healthy work-life balance.
Unfortunately, relocation will not be provided.
Compensation:
$250K-300K base salary + equity package + benefits.
