Position Overview

We are looking for a full-time Head of Communications to join our team, reporting to the Chief of External Affairs. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping and executing our communication strategies, managing our brand, and leading our outreach efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Communication Strategy and Execution

Develop and advise on comprehensive communication strategies.

Support the Chief of External Affairs and Executive team in defining and implementing our communication and outreach strategy.

Lead efforts to enhance and promote our external brand.

Assist the Development team with creating a bold donor communication strategy.

Represent our organization at external events, conferences, trainings, meetings, and in publications.

Oversee and organize external engagement activities, including both in-person and virtual events.

Lead the external launches of our products and initiatives.

Crisis Communications

Implement crisis response protocols in collaboration with the Analysis and Global Data Collection teams.

Analytics and Reporting

Manage outreach and data usage analytics using tools like Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics, and surveys to support decision-making and reporting.

Research and Content Development

Collaborate on developing a research agenda, activity outputs, calendar, and dissemination plan.

Work with the Analysis team to highlight and generate analytical products such as analysis pieces, press releases, and dashboards.

Team Management and Operations

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Communication team.

Manage and support the professional development of Communication team members.

Represent the Communications team in organizational meetings and strategic planning sessions.

Miscellaneous

Perform Other Tasks As Required.

Qualifications and Skills

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications and skills:

8+ years of professional experience in communications, outreach, or external engagement.

Proven success in developing and executing initiatives to enhance an organization's profile and engagement.

Strong leadership skills, with the ability to train, motivate, and hold staff accountable.

Excellent writing and editing skills.

Proficiency with communication tools such as Cision, Salesforce, Mailchimp, Adobe, and digital analytics platforms.

Ability to manage projects from initiation to completion (PRINCE2 or PMP certification is a plus).

Experience in managing social media presence and website content.

Familiarity with non-profit organizations is essential.

Background in peacebuilding, conflict, human rights, and/or global affairs is preferred.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Confidence in presenting to external audiences.

Ability to work in a dynamic and flexible environment.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

High attention to detail and good judgment.

Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in a leadership role.

Fluency in English is essential; additional languages are a plus.

Ability to travel as needed (up to 15%).
