This is a key business and finance leadership role that is focused on business partnering, strategic advice and supporting and driving business performance. This role is a critical member of the HBUS Commercial Banking (CMB) Executive committee, providing finance stewardship, controllership governance and oversight as well as driving business performance and contributing to the formation of business strategy.

The job holder requires an understanding of issues from a country, regional and global perspective, an understanding of the CMB and Group structure, and an appreciation of the commercial implications of differing business models. Additionally, the role demands a leader with a strong ability to influence and drive financial strategy, direction, and consistency across cultures/regions. A number of the functions that may impact the overall financial support for CMB are not part of the Head of Business Finance direct areas of responsibility/ownership. In addition, the finance team have responsibility of supporting the GTRF and GPS global product businesses. Key challenges of the Head of Business Finance CMB role are therefore to co-ordinate and manage the related parties.

The job holder requires a strong understanding of the Commercial Banking segments, Global Trade and Receivables Finance, as well as Global Payment Solutions businesses and its key strategies. The ability to understand and identify key business and economic factors that drive business performance is required to effectively provide insight and advice to the business leaders.

As our Head of Business Finance - Commercial Banking you will:

  • Lead and build a high performance business finance function that can support the business efficiently and effectively
  • Drive business performance and support HBUS CMB EXCO team to make sound business decision making by providing insightful business performance analytics, highlighting risks and opportunities, and providing strong commercial finance support (e.g. pricing, competitive analysis, client and product profitability, portfolio management) including across each of the segments – Corporates, ISB, CRE, Business Banking and Innovation Banking
  • Ensure effective allocation of resources (including balance sheet growth, strategic investment decisions and budget allocation) to optimize returns for the firm and shareholders
  • Owns the business strategic planning and forecasting processes, including target setting, financial projections / stress testing (including CCAR), AOP and other strategic planning, and investor relations
  • Simplify, develop and enhance the MI framework that is aligned to Group Finance MI Strategy, with the goal of achieving one version of truth for both financial and non-financial performance indicators that are aligned to the achievement of CMB strategy and that is timely, accurate, and complete
  • Support business development activities related to acquisitions and divestitures
  • Be a change agent during times of significant business and functional transformation
  • Support PWC in quarterly updates, audits or other information sharing
  • Provide guidance and support of operations on U.S. legal entities including HSBC Ventures for Innovation venture lending.
  • Support both PRA RWAs and U.S. RWAs (local) which drives US capital plan and returns as business needs and growth changes; and provide guidance under U.S. constraints including RWAs and committed unfunded caps
  • Support Omnia initiatives, reporting, reconciliations, projects and governance in support of the U.S. CMB’s material inbound and outbound flows

For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $250,000.00 and $350,000.00

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

Requirements

You´ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • Have a varied finance career with exposure across multiple finance disciplines (i.e. Financial Accounting & Control; Business Information & Analysis; Financial & Regulatory Reporting; Capital Management & Taxation; legal entity CFO; Accounting Policy; Change Management)
  • Exceptional drive and commitment
