About the Company: The Family Office is dedicated to managing the diverse financial interests, investments and tangible assets owned by the Principal, who is a former entrepreneur and active owner of multiple private companies. Personal assets overseen by the family office include multiple properties, a working farm, an airplane, a yacht, and several hobby businesses.
Job Summary: The Head of Accounting will be responsible for overseeing all bookkeeping, financial reporting, and financial planning and analysis activities for the family office. This includes managing expenses and financial reporting as well as implementing systems and process improvements, identifying areas for cost savings, and ensuring all financial practices adhere to commonly accepted bookkeeping standards. The Head of Accounting will be responsible for managing a team of financial professionals as well as interacting with other senior managers such as General Counsel, Director of Tax, Director of Administration, Estate Manager, and various business unit leaders. The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000.
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all entities under the family office
Record all financial transactions, including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments
Reconcile bank statements and ensure all accounts are balanced
Financial Reporting:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Present financial reports to the Principal and other stakeholders as needed
Expense Management:
Track and manage all expenses insuring proper documentation
Classify all expenses as capital expenditures or operating expenditures
Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings
Financial Planning and Analysis:
Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning
Develop budgets and financial forecasts for the family office’s various entities
Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide variance analysis
Systems and Process Improvements:
Implement and maintain accounting systems and software to improve efficiency and accuracy
Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for financial operations
Continuously identify areas for process improvements and implement best practices
Communication:
Communicate financial information clearly and concisely to the Principal and other stakeholders
Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial professionals as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Proven experience as a bookkeeper or head of accounting, preferably within a family office or similar environment
Strong understanding of commonly accepted bookkeeping practices and financial principles
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Self-starter with a high level of initiative and ability to work independently
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
