Definition Of Classification
The Head Coach is responsible for directing, planning, administering, and evaluating all aspects of the women’s water polo program. The Head Coach must comply with all University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III rules and policies. The Head Coach must have a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position is responsible for furthering the mission of the University, the Department of Athletics, and the women’s water polo program through leadership and education.
May be required to travel for extended periods of time for athletic contests and recruiting activities. Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required by the teams' schedules.
Duties And Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible for ensuring all facets of the women’s water polo program including staff, student-athletes, and others associated with the program, while maintaining compliance with all NCAA, SCIAC conference, and University rules and regulations at all times.
Responsible for the recruitment and development of qualified student-athletes to the University of Redlands and participation in the women’s water polo program.
Responsible for hiring, supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and overseeing the women’s water polo coaching staff, which includes part-time assistant coaches.
Responsible for scheduling competitions, scrimmages, and exhibitions matches, and coordinating travel for the women’s water polo program and other duties associated with the execution of the program schedule.
Provide leadership and direction for staff, student-athletes, and the university community utilizing the aquatics facility.
Responsible for budget administration and annual fundraising for the women’s water polo program.
Teaching physical education activity courses in accordance with the assigned load during the academic year.
Collaborate, communicate, and coordinate with other coaches and programs that utilize the same facility.
Function as an active and productive team member within the Department of Athletics while also integrating themselves as part of the fabric of the institution.
Develop relationships across campus and within the surrounding community to support the endeavors of the program, specifically with the engagement of alumni.
Responsibilities will also include a secondary departmental administrative assignment to be performed in support of the department as a whole. Such an assignment will be determined by the strengths, skills, and experience of the successful candidate.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Experience/Training/Education
Required
Bachelor’s degree.
Three (3) years of coaching experience. Preference will be granted to candidates with collegiate coaching experience and/or head coaching experience.
Ability to identify and attract outstanding students to the university, and to relate effectively with various constituent groups.
History of success as a coach as evidenced by sustained win/loss record, team achievements, as well as individual accomplishments by student-athletes under tutelage.
A valid California Class C CA drivers’ license with a good driving record is required. Note: Out-of-state licenses are valid until appointment. A valid California Class “C” driver’s license must be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordance with CA Vehicle Code 12505c).
Preference
Master’s degree.
Experience working with diverse constituencies, sensitivity to multicultural issues, and the ability to work productively in a collaborative environment to meet deadlines.
Knowledge And Skills
Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules.
Knowledge and understanding of the NCAA Division III philosophy and the role of physical education and athletics within a private, liberal arts academic setting.
Possess the ability to attract and retain outstanding students to the University.
Knowledge and understanding of the role of physical education, recreational sports, and athletics in a private, liberal arts academic setting.
Ability to provide leadership, development, and direction for staff and student-athletes.

Working Conditions:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, extreme temps and/or loud noises. The work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. May be required to travel for extended periods of time for athletic contests and recruiting activities. Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required by the teams' schedules.

The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Hiring Range. Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity, and relevant qualifications.
