Chowan University seeks an experienced Head Volleyball Coach who is passionate about the sport and ensuring students succeed not only in their sport but in the classroom and life as well.
Responsibilities
Execute all aspects of the Volleyball program in alignment with the University, Department of Athletics, and NCAA regulations.
Recruit and retain talented NCAA DII student-athletes for Volleyball.
Develop, monitor, and manage the program's annual budget.
Orient and ensure compliance of student-athletes and assistant coaches with University, Department of Athletics, NCAA, and conference policies and procedures.
Supervise student-athlete conduct and disciplinary actions.
Develop and implement a marketing plan for Volleyball.
Organize and conduct team practices, including strength and conditioning sessions and coaches' games.
Provide guidance to student-athletes regarding sport participation and personal development.
Secure private funds for Volleyball and support marketing, promotion, and developmental services for other sports.
Collaborate with Admissions and Financial Aid departments in recruiting student-athletes.
Select, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and support staff.
Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes.
Coordinate routine maintenance of playing surfaces.
Arrange transportation for team activities and oversee student-athlete travel.
Represent the Department of Athletics on various University committees.
Potentially teach within the Department of Sports Studies and Physical Education as assigned.
Travel overnight as needed.
Work evenings and weekends during the season and as required.
Qualifications
Understanding of NCAA regulations and guidelines.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a diverse community.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated success in recruiting talented players.
Proficiency in advising student-athletes on conduct, academics, and sportsmanship.
Competence in teaching the fundamentals of Volleyball.
Experience in budget management and record-keeping.
Capacity to make administrative decisions and judgments.
Commitment to fostering a cooperative environment.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Minimum Qualifications And Skills
Bachelors Degree required (Masters preferred)
Over 3 years experience as a head coach or 6 years as an assistant preferred.
Demonstrated ability to analyze players proficiency.
Ability to handle multiple tasks unsupervised.
Demonstrated ability to instruct players either individually or in groups.
