Head Coach, Track and Field

Purpose

Responsible for instructing student athletes in the rules and fundamentals of cross country and track and field; and determining fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques.

Duties

  • Plans and implements the operation of the cross country, track and field programs
  • Recruiting participants to fill NCAA average rosters or greater.
  • Share responsibility for administration/implementation of budget spending.
  • Maintains current knowledge and abides by NCAA/HCAC policies, rules and procedures
  • Attends NCAA/HCAC meetings, clinics and seminars
  • Maintains necessary records
  • Monitors eligibility for cross country, track and field
  • Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes
  • Advising of students on their academic progress for academic retention
  • Works closely with Sports Information
  • Responsible for safety of players during meets, practice, travel
  • Purchases and maintains equipment and uniforms
  • Makes travel arrangements
  • Schedules and organizes team related activities
  • Promotes players for recognition
  • Demonstrates integrity and upholds the values and mission of the University
  • Supports total athletic program
  • Assists in weight room supervision
  • Supervise open activities as needed and as permitted by NCAA Bylaws for safety purposes.
  • Committee assignments and other duties appropriate to skills and training as assigned by supervisors.
  • Contributes to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the division; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed.
  • Utilizes the state of the art Centennial Field House for camps, clinics and recruiting.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor, Master’s Degree preferred

Experience

High school and/or college coaching

Specialized Training

Proficient in use of: cross country, track and field background, Vans, copier, First Aid and CPR.

Work Environment, Physical Demands

  • Standing or sitting in one position for long periods; computer data input; multiple concurrent tasks with constant service interruptions; high level customer contact; strict confidentiality; detailed work; University vans for team and other transportation.
