We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head Athletic Trainer to join the Phoenix Suns. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for leading the Athletic Training arm of the Health & Performance department. This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive healthcare programs for all athletes, managing day-to-day medical operations, and ensuring the delivery of top-tier medical care in an efficient manner. The Head AT will also be responsible for supervising the Assistant Athletic Trainer(s) and coordinating with other department heads to align treatment and rehabilitation efforts with overall team objectives. Additionally, this position requires a proactive approach to athlete health, focusing on preventive measures and rapid response to injuries during training and games.

Travel Requirements: This role requires frequent travel with the team, including offseason travel for player site visits and NBA events like the Draft Combine and Summer League

What You Will Do

  • Develop and oversee athlete preparation, injury risk mitigation, and rehabilitation processes.
  • Coordinate game coverage including staff, physician, and emergency medical coverage.
  • Manage all aspects of athlete care during games, including communication of active/inactive rosters and overseeing prescription drug management.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation of all medical information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Conduct daily communication regarding team health status and availability to coaches and management.
  • Oversee the coordination of all medical appointments, including imaging.
  • Administer league-mandated drug testing and ensure compliance with all related regulations.
  • Lead regular meetings including the Health & Performance All Team Meeting and Medical Operations Weekly Meeting.

What We Need From Our Head Athletic Trainer, Phoenix Suns:

  • Detail-oriented, precise, and comfortable in operations environments.
  • Unselfish, team-motivated, with a focus on achieving operational efficiencies.
  • Strong analytical skills and a rational, authoritative approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in injury assessment, emergency care, athletic taping, and rehabilitation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in manual therapy and core computer skills

Experience/ Education Requirements

  • Degree in Athletic Training from an accredited program.
  • BOC/ATC certification and eligible for local state licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a related work setting.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional sports experience preferred.
