Head 8th Grade Volleyball Coach - 1.0 FTE - Hood River Middle School

This job vacancy announcement will remain open until filled. This is for a Head 8th Grade Volleyball Coach position and will begin with the 2024/25 volleyball season.

Head Volleyball Coach: The Head Volleyball Coach will lead and organize the middle school volleyball program. Lead in establishing an environment in which student-athletes can gain self-esteem and develop a positive self-image. Directs the promotion of sportsmanship, program equity and inclusion, a winning attitude and commitment to student academic success.

Essential Job Functions

  • Direct and supervise the organization of practice sessions during the regulated season; to include seasonal goals and objectives.
  • Work cooperatively with parents, other coaches, staff, and support programs.
  • Assists the Athletic Director in maintaining the care for athletic facilities and aid in the preparation of the facilities for athletic competition.
  • Assists Athletic Director in purchasing equipment, supplies and uniforms for girls' volleyball.
  • Assists Athletic Director in game scheduling when needed.
  • Responsible to conduct pre-season meeting with all athletes and parents, outlining schedules, student athletic contracts, and Student Athletic Handbook.
  • Works to improve skills and knowledge of each athlete and the team as a whole.
  • Organize team members according to competitive levels.
  • Enforces appropriate team rules and team discipline.
  • Follows guidelines and principles of sportsmanship.
  • Adheres to requirements of athletic eligibility.
  • Adheres to District Athletic Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures of league or other rules.
  • Works harmoniously with Assistant Coaches, community volunteers, parents, and school personnel.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, officials, and staff.
  • Submits rosters, equipment and uniform inventories and other reports as required.
  • Coordinates end of year awards, communications, and events.
  • Monitors expenditures in relation to budget and assist as in monitoring proper use, care, and return of uniforms and other assigned equipment.
  • Supervises and/or arranges for proper supervision of student/athletes during practices, games, travel, and related activities.
  • Coordinates and is responsible of all media communications at the middle school level related to the volleyball program.
  • Consults with Athletic Director and Administration concerning playing conditions, safety concerns, program improvements, player performance, outside complaints, and other related matters.

Skills, Knowledge And Abilities Required

  • Skills possessed will exemplify a moral character that is consistent with being a positive role model for all students. Skill and ability to teach volleyball skills and fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of the volleyball at the middle school level (to include recent rule changes). Through cooperation and communication with assistants, develop a system of play that can be effectively communicated with to implement at the high school level. Ability to communicate effectively with athletes and parents.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others. To organize and manage students time effectively. To use problem solving strategies consistently. Adjusts to performing practices in a variety of locations. Ability to motivate students.

Education Required: High School diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Volleyball coaching experience.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish helpful.

Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of:

The Head Coaching salary range is listed below. Placement on the salary schedule will be made by the HR Department, based on years of verified contracted coaching experience at the same responsibility level at the same sport.
