  • Reports To: Marketing Communications Manager
  • Hours: Monday-Friday day, other evenings and weekends as needed
  • Location: This is primarily an in-person position based at our Administrative Office (13207 NE Halsey St. Portland, OR)
  • Pay Rate: Depending on Experience

THE MARKETING DEPARTMENT

The Marketing Department at Portland Rescue Mission is a group of dedicated professionals using their marketing skills to raise provision for life-restoring Christian ministry by excellence in fund raising and brand enhancement through direct mail, digital, social media, tele/radio-thons, media relations, and advertising support for Portland Rescue Mission's social enterprises. Our goal is to tell the stories of what God is doing in the lives of the people we serve with integrity and excellence. In doing this, we honor the lives of those we serve and share their testimony in a way that invites others into partnership with PRM through service, prayer, and financial support.

THE POSITION

The Graphic Designer is a hands-on contributor to the storytelling efforts of Portland Rescue Mission through excellent visual content creation for our various print assets (e.g. newsletters, flyers, banners) and digital assets (e.g. website social media design elements). The scope of responsibility ranges from design creation and implementation to print production and vendor relations with a mindset of continuous improvement in aesthetic storytelling across all marketing platforms.

The Essentials

  • Strategically produce and implement well-crafted visual design elements from concept to execution for various uses, including brand campaigns, logos, flyers, posters, newsletters (print and digital), social media, and website visuals so that PRM supporters are encouraged, educated, and motivated
  • Support the production of powerful stories of changed lives and community betterment with eye-catching, informative graphic creativity so that individuals, businesses, and churches in our community are inspired to partner with the work of Portland Rescue Mission
  • Tell the Mission narrative of Giving Hope and Restoring Life via on-brand creative solutions that align to the technical and creative standards of Portland Rescue Mission
  • Collaborate with others to create, implement, and manage the different design stages, from concept to production to final deliverable(s), for Portland Rescue Mission's various campaigns
  • Manage vendor relationships and archive for Portland Rescue Mission's creative team
  • Assist in general Marketing Department projects including events, promotions, and activities
  • Engage guests and program participants with Christian care, including offering prayer and scripturally based encouragement during interactions as opportunity allows
  • Participate in PRM’s Christ-centered ministry culture through actively engaging in staff worship and devotional opportunities which may involve occasional sharing

Background And Qualifications

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior, a testimony of continued growth in faith, and spiritual maturity as defined by traditional biblical standards
  • Adherence to Portland Rescue Mission's Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics

  • Desire to serve God in a ministry to hurting men, women, and children
  • College degree in related field or experience equivalent
  • Professional-level graphic design skills with an emphasis on print graphics, email, website and social media – SAMPLES REQUIRED
  • Highly proficient in industry-standard design software (Adobe Creative Suite—Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Rush, InDesign, Lightroom, and Adobe Express, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of software such as Basecamp, Dropbox, WordPress and other digital media platforms
  • Photo manipulation, as needed
  • Knowledge of color theory and color techniques
  • Ability to utilize typography to enhance the overall design
  • Understanding of print production processes and experience producing pre-press files
  • Experience in Microsoft Office software
  • Excellent grammatical, oral, and written communication skills
  • Motion graphics abilities a plus
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. unassisted

  • Camera light kit and external flash
