Position Description

AAPI New Jersey is seeking a grants consultant who will expand our capacity to identify and seek major new grant opportunities from state and federal agencies and large foundations. As a contract position, the grant writer will work remotely and meet as-needed to discuss proposals. We are seeking a candidate who can dedicate from 20-40 hours per month to this role.

Reports to: AAPI New Jersey’s Co-Executive Director.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with AAPI New Jersey programs, current funders, prospecting needs, and language used in grants
  • Research grant opportunities and RFPs from state and federal agencies, as well as major foundations
  • Draft grant applications, proposals, and reports based on funding requirements of the organization, and submit to Executive Director in accordance with deadlines
  • Coordinate and attend meetings with AAPI New Jersey leadership and programmatic staff as needed to gather information necessary for proposals, applications, and reports

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated respect and sensitivity for all communities and cultures.
  • Strong project management skills; professional written and verbal skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of grant submission and fundraising process, with track record of successful grant submissions with state and federal agencies or major foundations
  • Previous experience with Asian American nonprofits, racial justice work, or education initiatives a plus
  • Proficiency in or ability to learn software skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Slack, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail).

Compensation

  • The hourly range is $50-75, depending on experience, for an expected 20-40 hours per month.
  • This is a remote position with occasional meetings by Zoom or in-person at our Montclair office.

AAPI New Jersey (formerly AAPI Montclair) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2021 to advocate for Asian American and Pacific Islander rights and representation and to promote awareness and education around AAPI culture and history. Through various initiatives, AAPI Montclair seeks to create structural change, build solidarity among communities, fight for equity for all oppressed groups, while celebrating AAPI cultures. Since its founding, AAPI Montclair has grown from a small group of dedicated folks responding to the rise of anti-Asian hate to a nationally recognized organization supported by thousands, implementing the teaching of AAPI curriculum through its impactful program TAAS (Teaching Asian American Stories) and creating a model for AAPI community mobilization.
