We have an exciting opportunity to join our Biopharmaceuticals Medical team (BPM) as Global Medical Affairs Leader (GMAL), Obesity, working on our growing AstraZeneca pipeline of novel combinations and mechanisms to target broad weight management opportunities across different patient populations.

BioPharmaceuticals Medical (BPM) ensures the best patient outcomes by providing healthcare decision-makers around the world with the evidence and confidence they need on AstraZeneca (AZ) therapies. We support our internal stakeholders with medical strategic insight and expertise, with the aim of achieving scientific leadership, whilst aspiring to be a great place to work keeping patients at the core of everything we do.

Introduction to role:

Reporting directly to the Global Medical Head, Obesity, the GMAL is an important strategic business role, with the ability to pair unique medical expertise with insight from markets, healthcare professionals, patients, and health systems to develop and execute world-class medical strategies for AstraZeneca medicines and market-shaping teams, globally.

Beyond being a key member of the Global Medical Team (GMT), the GMAL acts as a strategic partner and leader across the medical enterprise, R&D, and commercial functions. The role serves as a conduit between the Global Product Team (GPT) and Medical teams in the Regions (US, EU-Canada, China, Japan & International) and major markets, ensuring the needs of marketing company affiliates, healthcare professionals and patients are recognized in ambitious Global product and disease area strategies, and that medical teams around the world are equipped to deliver outstanding product launches, transform health systems, deliver practice-defining studies and real world evidence, and accelerate delivery of AstraZeneca clinical trials.

Accountabilities:


  • Scientific Leadership: creating & communicating world-class medical content and compelling science narratives for products/market-shaping initiatives
  • Evidence: shaping/designing evidence needs and clinical studies to differentiate or expand market access for AstraZeneca medicines and in support healthcare change initiatives
  • External Scientific Engagement: drive an ambitious external engagement agenda – credible and knowledgeable with an ability to partner with/mobilise global thought leaders, societies, health organisations and health system decision-makers
  • Launch & Performance: delivering prerequisites for an outstanding product launch – strategy, scientific narrative, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) – with an ability to critically assess performance against launch objectives and proactively take remedial action
  • Innovator: creating new opportunities to drive market growth, identifying, and scaling best-practices across countries
  • Business Partner: Collaborate cross functionally to drive the delivery of strategically important resources as well as scientifically accurate & compliant commercial materials


Essential skills/experience:


  • Masters degree with 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Medical, Marketing, R&D, Market Access roles), or experience working within a relevant health system setting (clinical, pharmacy, pathway design, etc.)
  • Demonstration of strategic and medical leadership prowess pre- and post- product launch, including ability to define evidence needs, create compelling scientific narratives & strategy, influence & mobilize others
  • Experience/expertise in obesity and/or related cardiovascular, renal and metabolic (CVRM) therapy areas


Desirable for the role:


  • Doctoral level degree: MD, PhD, or PharmD
  • Strong working relationships with global clinical thought leaders, professional societies and other healthcare industries/organizations
  • Experience of delivering results in a complex environment
  • Experience launching new products or indications
  • Proven ability to build internal and external networks and to collaborate
  • Evidence generation experience—working on clinical trials or real-world evidence programs
