GIS Technician

Overview

Herzog Technologies Inc. is currently seeking a detail oriented GIS Technician in Cedar Rapids, IA to join our team.

Duties And Responsibilities

• This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
• Travel for field survey of railroad corridors and assets.
• Prepare for and conduct surveys using a variety of common and proprietary equipment.
• Maintain good working relationship with customer personnel.
• Review survey data using HTI and third-party software to extract, identify, attribute, and verify data.
• Combine and cross-reference data sources to build a complete dataset.
• Generate output data in a variety of formats.
• Work with HTI and customer personnel to ensure and verify completeness, quality, accuracy, and integrity of data.
• Create survey reports, release notes, and other documentation of GIS work.
• Ensure that data, reports, and other deliverables meet HTI's professional standards.
• Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
• Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
• Other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• Certificate or Degree in GIS (or related field) is preferred but not required
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Excellent problem solver and quick learner
• Ability to work with, interpret, and synthesize a variety of data sources
• Proficient in Excel
• Ability to observe railroad safety procedures and follow safety-related instructions and signals
• Experience using ArcGIS or another Geographic Information System (GIS) preferred but not required
• Familiarity with Google Maps or Google Earth preferred but not required
  
  

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
• Subject to motor vehicle report review.
• Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
• Pass pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
  
  

Physical Requirements

• This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.
• Able to walk on uneven surfaces
• Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs
• Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
• Regularly kneel, bend, and squat
• Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
• Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.)
