About the Position
This is an incredible work opportunity in a fast-paced, innovative company that puts the patient first. We hire clinical care professionals who deliver medical care using telemedicine modalities including video, phone, connected devices, and asynchronous messages (chat/email).
As a Genetic Counselor, you will be providing telehealth genetic education, counseling, and support to patients and/or families who have genetic disorders or who may be at risk for inherited conditions. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team including medical geneticists and nurse practitioners. May coordinate and support research activities. Provides guidance and support through the processes of risk assessment, genetic testing, and making informed choices for future healthcare within the specialty of cancer genetics.
Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and interpret laboratory results and communicate findings to patients or physicians
Assists families in understanding genetic disorders in their families; the probable course of the disorder, available management strategies, medical recommendations from the geneticist, and recurrence risks.
Documents in patient charts and develops follow-up recommendations for patients; documents cases and maintains appropriate records, ensuring confidentiality.
Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to determine an appropriate course of action for treatment
Provide genetic counseling services to patients, including gathering and interpreting personal and family medical histories, assessing risks, communicating disease and risk information clearly, and result interpretation.
Provide outstanding service and care to patients who are seeking treatment for genetic therapy
Requirements
Master's degree in Genetic Counseling or Human Genetics from an accredited program
Board certification through the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG)
Must possess an active, non-restrictive genetic counseling licensure in the following States: CA, FL,GA, IL, NY, OH, PA, TX,
MINIMUM of 15 active genetic counseling licenses REQUIRED
Minimum two years experience as a practicing genetic counselor required
Strong knowledge of genetics and hereditary conditions, particularly related to cancer preferred
Knowledge of genetic counseling protocols preferred
Competent in providing patient education at every visit
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Above-average comfort with technology and assisting patients with troubleshooting technical difficulties that may occur in the home environment
Timely and professional
Telemedicine or virtual care experience a plus
