Nature of Work

This position performs intermediate-level technical or specialized work in maintaining and repairing Bonita Springs Utilities (BSU’s) treatment systems, equipment, and facilities. Installs, maintains, and repairs equipment. Inspects and evaluates equipment to provide recommendations concerning maintenance and repair needs. Exercises judgment in accordance with well-defined policies and procedures.

Duties And Responsibilities

(The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of tasks performed in this classification. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.)

  • Installs, maintains, replaces, and/or repairs various electrical and mechanical components and equipment (i.e., pumps, motors, control panel components, compressors, valves, lines, etc.).
  • Performs preventative maintenance on electrical, mechanical and equipment components according to assigned schedules or when directed.
  • Inspects and tests tools, vehicles, and safety gear; reviews and restocks supplies; performs service vehicle inventory.
  • Operates a variety of heavy equipment and machinery including, but not limited to, forklifts, boom trucks, high-pressure cleaner/vacuum trucks, and closed-circuit television trucks.
  • Fabricates materials and parts by using welding, brazing, and cutting torches.
  • Troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, and manual control systems.
  • Monitors and ensures proper environmental and safety conditions per work site; ensures proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals, cleaners, and caustic solutions.
  • Observes actions and records readings of all work/service performed (i.e., motor ampere, raw water, pump and motor performance, part replacement, etc.).
  • Safeguards all assigned tools, equipment, and electronics from theft, loss, destruction, and/or negligence.
  • Follows all BSU and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety policies and procedures.
  • Functions on a rotating “on call” basis for emergency response.
  • Remains in contact via company phone/radio at all times in the event of an emergency.
  • Attends weekly safety meetings.

This position will focus on BSU Generators, and the additional duties are as follows:

  • Knowledge of computer systems, networking, software, SCADA, with strengths in electrical testing, mechanical inspection, Troubleshooting and repair.
  • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of UM Departments Gen-Sets, Towable’s, and portable Generators.
  • Assist with budgeting for repair and replacements of Gen’s
  • Checking all generator associated equipment.
  • Plan and perform preventive maintenance, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and installations inclusive of diesel and gas generators electrical and mechanical components.
  • Applies the use of specialized tools and follows manufacturer procedures and policies to diagnose and complete repairs.
  • Maintaining ATS gear
  • Maintaining and documenting all repair orders
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Interpret graphs and read daily telemetry reports.
  • Utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive design, and/or advisory data.

  • Clearly communicate and understand information, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with both internal and external contacts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; one (1) or more years’ of progressively responsible skilled electrical and mechanical systems maintenance and repair experience.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with Class “B” CDL with tanker and air brakes endorsements.
  • State of Florida Class “C” Wastewater Collection certificate.
